I don't know about anyone else's experiences, but I enjoyed United when I flew to England and back with them. I'm not sure about the liquor..it was the first "long haul" flight I was on, so I just assumed they charged..and if everyone else does, they likely do too...but they were very friendly and curteous, headphones, etc provided..it was a nice flight there and back. :) M.

Plus, the plane wasn't packed,so had the window and seat next to me to myself..yay! :)

Sigh...is there any airline here in the US that isn't crappy? Delta isn't too bad I suppose...except for that 25 hour delay they caused me last year....Continental ripped my backpack straps, Joel emailed them but no response (so what if my backpack wasn't expensive, it's still MY backpack!)...AirTran just sucks, PERIOD!!!

I found JetBlue to be pretty nice. Have you tried it?

I dont like NWA anyways. They suck bad.

There planes are so old they seem like there going to fall apart when your thousands of miles up in the air. Not good. I flew with them once, and I said never again. I had the worst headaches from the fumes, and so did my husband.

I do like the aisle seat thou. I hate bothering people to move when I have to go to the bathroom. My nerves when I am flying makes me piddle all the time.

Yes they have older planes. they are retiring the DC-9's which are almost old as me. which is a old plane.

They have new planes belive me they do.. I worked on some of them..open the engine cowl up and see a bright sparkling new engine.. very pretty :D

Take care

But I hate NWA.. a bunch of CHOPF##k's

Well I hate Nwa. they suck. I am unemplyed cause a maintenance manager lied about me to his boss and they had to tell my manager I can't work their anymore. So I hope this Chopfu## is out of work someday soon. I belive in Karma and it will come back to him. and if I am around and I run into him and he is not their anymore, then I will tell him, you ####### in the fan, it will come back to you :lol::lol::lol:

here is a link of other people that flew NWA and what they think.

Hahah! I live in Detroit so I almost have no chance of a direct flight unless it is out on NWA. I saw this story on the news yesterday and thought they were kidding. The least they can do is create seats with more leg room like United and AA do (did? do they still have their first 4-5 rows with more room?).

I took Continental Airlines this Christmas to fly to India (they have direct flight service out of Newark to New Delhi, it was a 16 hour flight). I asked the flight attendant for a Baily's Irish Creme and she hands me the little liquor bottle and says "$5 please"? I was like, "What?? I thought liquor was free on a international flights??". She says "Well, we have to make up our losses somehow for all the people that bought cheap tickets". I looked at her and laughed. I paid $1800 for my seat. Not cheap for a ticket to India (they usually go around 1200).

To be honest, I have noticed that foreign carriers are MUCH better. Jet Airways (India) served lunch for a one hour flight. Quantas (LAX to Sydney) gives you a "snack bag" and you can get up and refill on water from their water spouts. Virgin Atlantic had good service too.

Too bad I am stuck with NWA (and I am a GOLD member with them, that is how much I fly with them!)

I guess for next time, you should buy about 5 crore Zimbabwean dollars (maybe about US$13.75 now?).

When they ask for $5 for liquor then you can give them Z$5!

Most airlines don't charge for liquor on long international flights.

I've flown BA & Virgin...hated BA, had so many problems with them...but I loved flying Virgin...

The flight staff was excellent & very attentive...they always kept me stocked with gin (no charge) :P and not a bad curry dinner either.

The ticket staff was so nice that on my first flight over to the UK, I was crying cos I'll miss my mom...well, they gave her a special pass to walk me straight to the gate, and even got one of those golf-cart guys to drive us to the security checkpoint, so we'd have time to sit down and have a coffee.

If you check Continental Airlines' website, and book a UK flight thru them.....you'll be flying Virgin. It's their 'sister' plane or whatever...and the price I got thru Continental was cheaper ($700s) than going thru the Virgin site($950).

I'm slightly over 6'7" (that's 201 CM to you European people), and I would pay an extra 10 to 20% to get in an exit row.

I've always wondered why they don't charge extra for the seats and give them away to some 5'1" person. Delta has bumped me twice up to business for free because all of the exit rows went to short people.

I got this email from NWA

WorldPerks® Gold Elite 2006

Dear John, Your WorldPerks number is XXXXXXXXXXXX.

As you may know, Northwest launched a new product called Coach ChoiceSM on March 14, 2006. As part of the implementation plan, I wanted to make sure that the facts are clearly communicated to our most valuable WorldPerks members. Coach Choice is a test program where 5% of domestic coach seat assignments are available at time of check in for $15 per flight. Elite members also have access to these domestic seats at 36 hours prior to departure via nwa.com® Manage My Reservations. Transatlantic and Transpacific flights are not included in the Coach Choice program.

These domestic Coach Choice seats are primarily a combination of exit row and aisle seats. However, the Select Seating zone remains an important part of the WorldPerks Elite program. Exit row seats and bulkhead seats continue to be available free of charge on all Northwest aircraft. In fact, 65% of exit row seats remain free and are available for assignment to Elite members up to 90 days prior to departure as part of the Select Seating zone.

We know that premium seating is an important Elite benefit. Because of this, Northwest will continue to have a substantial Select Seating zone, offer unlimited complimentary First Class upgrades and offer a higher percentage of domestic First Class seats than any of our North American competitors. Elite members are very important to us. We appreciate your business and value your loyalty.

Sincerely,

Jim Cron

Vice President of Passenger Marketing & Sales

Airlines dont pay for ripped straps, broken handles, wheels, or scratches.

read the contract of carriage located in your ticket jacket. you should be able to find a copy on line as well. luggage is designed to protect the contents.

But it was meant as a carryon... and it did fit under the seat. For some reason they made her check it in. Backpacks aren't meant as checkin luggage, but they made her do it. So what else can she do?

I've never had a problem with Northwest. I must be the only person! But since this aisle seat thing has come out I am not impressed.

As an AA Frequent Flyer I can get the exit row if its free. And it does make a difference, its almost like flying business for the amount of extra legroom you get (that is row 31 A,B,H,K on a 777 to the UK)

Other than that, I try to fly on the first plane in the morning from the USA to the UK so that it gets there the same day. For some reason these flights are usually pretty empty so you can get many seats to yourself and also as its not an overnighter you don't get the jetlag!

See, I find the opposite; I've flown on the last flight out at night and tired myself out the night before. Then I take a Tylenol PM about half an hour before I get on the plane. That worked like a charm especially the last time I flew; my flight out of Newark was at 8 p.m., and my row had an empty seat that the gentleman next to me very graciously let me use. So I curled up, passed out, and woke up first thing in the morning in Edinburgh. :)

I've enjoyed flying United when travelling between Australia and New York. Tough for the first trip, but then I got Premier status and got the Economy Plus seats (and on a ~14 hour flight you want every inch of legroom available).

Best experience, free upgrade to Business when flying from SFO->SYD, exit row 15A upstairs on the 747. Power plug for the laptop, great food, good seats.

well i fly airtran or us airways to get to and from my hometown to philly. for the price, i don't expect a meal or anything like that. i always ask for the window because i hate having to get up everytime the person next to me needs to take a leak. like pax, i'm pretty short :D , so the legroom issue doesn't affect me much. but i like to nap on flights so i choose weekdays to fly when the flight will not be full so i don't get the evil 6 year old who will keep kicking the back of my seat or the 300lb woman who reclines almost into my lap without a scrap of consideration.

airtran sucks because no matter where i fly i usually have to stop in their hub in ATL but they do have "free" XM radio so i can ignore the crying babies. but keep in mind, i usually am only up in the air for about 2 hours. if i have to do a longer flight, then i would probably take more care in selecting an airline seat where i can stretch out.

if they start charging for my luggage then i will have to start taking road trips or cruising. because i'm already paying over $70 in taxes and fees every time i fly, not to mention the long waits, delays, shoe scans, picking apart of my luggage, and the stingy 1/2 cup of soda and cookie. its are becoming less and less worth my time and effort and money.
