Travel between US and Canada after IR-1 approval

When I move to the US following the approval (fingers crossed) of the IR-1 visa application, am I able to travel back and forth between Canada and the US or is there a period of time I must remain in the States?

No waiting period. When you cross with your visa you will have all the rights and privileges of a permanent resident, including travel

Keep in mind that once you activate your visa you are no longer a resident of Canada and cannot get health care etc in Canada.

Do you have to activate the Visa on your first trip down to the US? Or can you activate at a later date?

The reason I ask is that we will be making a few trips to move things but will continue to work & reside in Canada for a few months (April/May).

If the Visa is activated then we will have to look into US insurance until our jobs start down south.

I did my POE in March but didn't completely move until June. Are you moving YOUR stuff or your spouse's? The reason I ask is because I'm not sure you'd be permitted to start moving you stuff into the U.S. without having done your POE yet.

We both have our own personal items but the majority of the stuff is from the house where we both used them. We could make a few trips down with just "my" stuff and hold off moving spouse's stuff until we have the moving van at the end.

Have been in AP since January 11th due to needing a joint sponsor. The Consulate received the required paperwork 4 weeks ago and we are still waiting for a status change.

We need to list our house and I would like to keep working until the end of March or mid April. My spouse is lucky enough to be able to keep his job and be transferred to a US company.

Based on our experience, USC spouse moved "our goods" (that is, including most of mine except what I flew with) before my visa was actually issued, no problem. Well it was a mover that did it but they had all the appropriate paperwork and had no problems with it.

I wouldn't think it would be a big deal although you should make sure you have proof that your husband will be returning to Canada to reside until later in case the border person is a suspicious type. When you move the bulk of the stuff you will need the completed form though.
