Just wanted to share my wonderful news. My fiance happened to check his mail this weekend and low and behold there was a letter from the embassy informing him to come by the embassy to obtain his packet 3!! The letter was dated FEBRUARY 12!! The case has been there the whole time!! He's going out of town until Wednesday, so he'll be at the embassy bright and early Thursday morning. The down side: He's going to Senegal for two weeks on Friday, so he won't be able to return the Packet 3 to obtain his interview date until he comes back at the end of March. But at least the case isn't lost and we can move forward!!:dance: <- us doing the happy dance!!

That's GREAT news! See, the embassy doesn't bother to check that they have the case. Those turkeys.

Your fiance could try to be prepared with what is in packet 3 and turn it in on the same day he picks it up. I'm not saying the consulate people will let him do this but he could quietly attempt it if he gets there early and gets the packet quickly.

This is what is in packet 3:

- cover letter with instructions about documents to prepare and gather (checklist)

* cover letter includes instructions to fill out forms OF-156 and OF-156(K) but those forms aren't attached. also includes instructions to get a medical exam from a list of attached physicians, but that list wasn't attached either.

- DS-230 Part I

- Information about evidence of support (financial proof)

- Information about getting a police certificate

- Photo requirements for application

So if he brings the forms filled out (OF-156, OF-156K, DS-230 Part I) and a pen to sign the checklist (he doesn't have to have all the stuff on the checklist done, he does that while waiting for the interview), he could turn right around and hand it in for an interview date. He might want to run out and photocopy the checklist, though, unless someone on this board has a copy (I didn't keep one).

Good luck!

Congrats Sankofa!!!! Its too bad that the Ghana embassy lead you to believe this entire time that your case was missing! Shame on them for the unnecessary stress they cause! Hope you get to book your interview date soon! Hope all goes well with your fiance's medicals as well!

oh trust me, they will tell you whatever they need to get you off their backs. they told us for six months that they didnt' have our case and it was there the whole time. You just have to nag the heck out of them.

Sankofa,

Congrats! Best wishes!

Sent I130 September 23, 2004

Approved January 5, 2005

Interview date July 21, 2005

Told to pick up visa October 2005, but no visa issued.

Case went missing for six months - from October 2005 through April 2006

Emailed Embassy constantly, sent letter directly to director of Embassy by fax and snail mail

Response received April 2006 from Director - full of inaccuracies, but placed my husband's name on list to enter Embassy.

Husband entered Embassy in late April - told case worker working on our case quit, they were short staffed so no one touched our case; told to return in July 2006 to pick up visa.

July 2006 - no visa issued still, told case went to US for secondary approval.

August 2006 - US said case was approved in January 2005 and they did not have it.

September, October, November and December 2006, Embassy kept insisting they did not have our case. I emailed EVERY day until finally, response said my husband was called on the phone to pick the visa up six months earlier. My husband has NEVER been called on the phone by the Embassy.

Told to come pick up visa January 19 - said the "Ghanaians who print the visas didn't print them"

Changed date on blue slip and told to come back. Finally received the visa February 2, 2007.

THANK GOD!

Arriving in USA very very soon and I can't wait!!!!!!

Did he pick it up yet? GOOD LUCK!!!! At least, you finally have it. Too bad you had to wait all of that extra time.

The wait continues. He works with a tour company in Ghana and so he's been on tours since he got the notice. Right now he's doing a tour in Senegal and he won't be back in Accra until Sunday. But he'll go to the embassy on Monday to get his packet 3 and return it on Wednesday to receive his interview date. Thanks for asking. Glad to see all is well with you. Let me officially welcome you to this waiting game. I pray all runs smoothly with your process as well.
