Off and running...sent our I-130's in!

Sorry to spam with something completely pointless to everyone, but couldn't help it...we sent off our I-130 to the Chicago lockbox today!

Got all the paperwork together at the end of January for my wife & stepson (I'm the USC, and we all live in Australia together, so filing from abroad). I had to get my dad to send me checks as I no longer have any US checks, and the "overnight" envelope with the checks took about 10 days to get here, give or take.

So that's it...just excited to finally be "on the path" after staring at the completed paperwork sitting in a nice, neat pile on the desk for the last 2 weeks!

Sorry to rain on your parade - (I wouldn't do that if not for your benefit). How long have you been living in Australia, and are you aware you will have to prove the domicile in the USA?

Best luck!

Haha, no worries. I appreciate the advice... It's what we're all here for, right?

I've been in Australia for almost 10 yrs, and am aware I'll need to re-establish domicile. Working on that as we speak. We'll be living with my parents initially, and are currently getting the kids registered for school. Will work on some other things, too, ie. looking for work when it gets a bit closer.

Again, thanks for the feedback. Cheers :-)

I'm sure you know you don't have re-establish domicile before the beneficiary gets her visa, yeah? Showing the school registration and a letter from your parents at NVC and at the interview (plus a few other supporting evidence) should be enough! (I assume you know this but just in case other people stumble upon this thread, lol)

Congrats! Please keep us posted, I will be following. My husband and I are preparing to put our application in too, we both reside in Australia, and he's the USC.

We were planning to either use his family (his sister will have us stay until we get settled) or try to organise a lease, to satisfy the domecile requirement.

We are also hoping to either secure work for my husband just prior to arriving, or if not, be able to use our assets to satisfy the affidavit of support. So I am really keen to hear experiences from others in the same situation.

Wish you both the best of luck for an easy, smooth and non-lengthy journey!

Yep, I do, but as you said...it can't hurt to post again as I've learned a lot from searching threads all over this site! That's why I wasn't worried about going ahead and getting our petitions in... I knew we'd have time to worry about re-establishing domicile later.

Cheers

Hi, just an update for anyone interested...got email confirmation that they received and accepted our cases (I-130s), and they have been routed to the USCIS Potomac Service Center for processing.

It says we'll get our official Receipt Notice (Form I-797, which I believe is the NOA1?) within 7-10 days by standard mail. Hmm, seeing as we're in Australia, I would assume it will take longer for us to receive this?

Hi there!

My husband and I are on the same visa journey, just a few weeks ahead of you and your spouse. Our Priority Date is Jan. 26, 2016 and we are assigned to the Potomac Service Center. We are currently awaiting the NOA2. Btw, I'm the USC and my hubby is the Aussie! :)

Nice to "meet" you! Sounds like our situations parallel quite a bit, then. :-)

So, if you're a month ahead of us, it sounds like we have at least another month+ before we can even hope to hear anything. I'll be interested to follow your journey to see how ours might go! Best of luck!

That will be alright with us. I am new to this site. Do you understand how to read those visa processing timelines on here by any chance? Any other topics on here I should follow? Thanks and best of luck to you too!

Do you mean the Timeline you can access by clicking the "Timeline" link under a person's name? They basically just tick off the events in the process... NOA1, NOA2, Interview, etc. Any specific questions you have?

Here's a thread you may want to follow...it's basically USC filing from abroad, and compiling (at least anecdotal) evidence that there's some sort of (unofficial) expediting when filing from overseas: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/357465-usc-petitioner-living-abroad/page-45

According to peoples' experiences there, you should possibly get your NOA2 any day now?

Cheers,

Josh
