Hello all

A quick question I think I've asked this before but without a knowledgeable answer

Okay here is it be patient with me

Currently going through the ROC process green card expires April as does my drivers license on the same day

I have my extension letter and my biometrics letter also

I'm going to Florida for a family vacation in may I'm planning on renewing my drivers license with extension letter but heard it doesn't always work with the dmv hopefully it does and it comes in time before I fly

So I was wondering if that doesn't work out am I able to fly with my British passport from C.A to F.L or will it look suspect ????

Anyone ever been through this before all help Is appreciated

You know what? I always use my passport instead of my driver's license when I fly. In fact, I use my passport whenever anyone asks for ID. I'm still shocked when a clerk doesn't know it's a passport. I have had clerks demand a driver's license - even though my US passport is a "higher" form of ID.

You won't have an issue.

You can always travel within the US with a Passport. Imagine if you didn't live in the US and lived in the UK visiting the US on vacation and needed to travel from California to Florida? You won't have a US Driver's license.

So to answer that 2nd part of your question, no it doesn't look suspect. Many people visiting the US from other countries travel within the US with their passports without consequense everyday. Travel outside the US is a completely different story.

That's okay it's just I know I won't have my 10 year green card in time and might not have my drivers license in time so was hoping my British passport was okay thanks for the response

You have to provide photo ID. Driver license is a common form of ID. Passport works too, even a British one.

But is it possible that security at airport wants to see a valid visa also, if you are using a non USA passport.

Once you apply to remove conditions, use the NOA to renew the driver's license. I have been a traveler both domestic and international on various visas and the transition stages.

Passport - yes, you can travel with UK passport, but be prepared to answer visa related questions.

Expired Driver's License - if for some reason you did not have an opportunity to renew your Driver's License, try traveling with expired Driver's License.

That wouldn't even make sense as you don't need to have a valid visa to stay legally in the US. Anyway, no "security" at airports has any clue about immigration law, though they could call over CBP, in which case they would see that there is no problem.

newacct: security and/or airline may require the passenger to display the documentation to show legal presence. I have been asked to do so. Well, i was in also detained once, while they made sense of the documentation that I was providing.

I would use your passport for flying regardless if it is from the UK. However, keep any current immigration documentation with you on the very off chance that CBP is hanging out with airport security even for domestic flights. I use my passport at all airports and only use my DL when I need to show my residential address.

Good Luck!
