Does DoS return the green card when you apply Child Passport? [merged threads]

Did DoS return the Green Card after processing passport?

For those of you who have applied for a passport for your child (instead of Certificate of Citizenship) do they return your child's green card?

I ask because I have submitted the N600 application and am waiting on that. In the meantime if I want to apply for a passport will they keep his Green Card? If they do, what do I tell USCIS when they ask me to turn in the green card in order to get the CoC?

CR1 / CR2 Visa:

(Day 1) 12/16/11: I-130 Application sent

(Day 283) 09/24/12: Interview at US Consulate – Approved!

(Day 287) 09/28/12: Visa Received & Immediately entered US using Visa

(Day 290) 10/01/12: Social Security Card sent automatically

Removal of Conditions CR1 / CR2
(Day 1) 07/28/14: Application sent.
(Day 135) 12/10/14: ROC Approved!
(Day 143) 12/18/14: 10 year GC received (IR1 / IR2)

Naturalization:
(Day 1) 06/30/15: Application sent.
(Day 210) 01/26/16: Interview and Oath Ceremony. DONE!

(Day 95) 04/30/16: Received letter from field office to say no oath necessary and that they would mail the certificate.
(Day 106) 05/11/16: Cert of Citizenship received by registered mail (they never sent tracking. case status was never updated either)

I have not gone through what you are going through but if USCIS asks for the green card and the passport agency did not return it to you just let them know that's what happened and I think you should be fine show them your kid US passport once you receive it

Hi, I have a N600 application pending for my son and I am trying to decide whether to apply for his passport in the meantime.

My concern is whether or not DoS will keep his green card when they issue the passport.

I am worried that if they keep it, the USCIS will ask for it when they issue his Certificate of Citizenship and I won't have it any longer to give to them.

It seems to be 50/50 whether or not you get your green card back. What are your experiences?

Do you think I should just wait til they are done the N600 before applying for the passport just in case DoS keeps the Green Card?

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You don't need both....

Thanks I know I don't "need" both but I feel more comfortable having both Certificate of Citizenship (which I have already applied for and am waiting on, so can't take back that application now anyways.... )

Given that fact, I just wanting to find out whether it is better to wait for the certificate before applying for the passport just in case they keep the Green Card. I don't want to complicate things unnecessarily with USCIS.

Update - Received my son's passport today and they kept the green card as expected.

They included a generic letter (not addressed specifically to me) saying that the card has been sent to USCIS and would not be returned to me :)

I scanned the letter so if anyone wants it, pm me your email address and I can email you a copy (I can't attach it in the forums).
