Medical on day before interview?

We have our interview date on March 15 and it's a 3.5 hour drive to the nearest panel physician (in Sydney, Australia). We have made the medical appointment on the day before the interview. However, they won't give us the results and will post directly to the embassy. Therefore we won't have the results in to the embassy at interview.

Does anyone know how much of a delay this is likely to cause? Would it be best to reschedule for a medical and suck up the time and money expense to go in to Sydney?

Similar happened to me about medical were not ready until a week after the interview so once results were ready I dropped package to embassy and a few days later visa was ready

I had my medical on a Thursday and my Interview the following Tuesday. Because of the short time between the two, the medical staff said I could pick up the result and bring them to the interview myself. Results were ready on the Monday. I picked them up on the way to my interview on the Tuesday morning.

So it was only a few days for the results to be ready, including the weekend. So it could technically be less than that. Add to that the time for the embassy to add it to your file and I'd say you're looking at a delay of maybe a week, week and a half tops. Just an educated guess though.

Before you decide if you should change your medical, I'd give them a call and see how long the results would take to get to the consulate, then add 2 or 3 days to that.

If the embassy don't have your medical result at the time of interview, they'll just issue you a 221(g). It's basically a letter saying that they can't issue you a visa because they are waiting for your medical results, but once they have it, they will issue your visa. I would think you loose a week.

I was able to get an earlier Consulate interview date than my scheduled date- but unfortunately it meant I went to the interview before I went to my medical appointment. Mallafri76 is right- you'll just get a 221(g) and they continue processing visa once medical results are received.

My medical appointment was a wednesday and they posted everything to the consulate on the following Monday. I received my passport/visa back by courier 10 business days later, on a Friday.

I had my medical two months before my interview date, and it wasn't at the consulate when I had my interview! The consulate was great about it and immediately emailed the physician in Sydney on the day of my interview. It took about two weeks from the day of the interview for the visa to be issued and mailed to me.

  • 1 month later...

Just wanted to follow this up in case anyone reads this in future. The medical was done on the day before the interview. At interview, we were told that the visa would be approved if he passed the medical. We did get a 221(g) to take with us. The doctor (Dr Waks in Sydney) was very prompt with getting the report in. We ended up getting the approval email 8 days after the medical (7 days after interview) and the visa arrived in the mail the next day.
