Hello VJers,

My husband and I are scheduled for an AOS interview next month. My husband is the beneficiary, when we sent his paperwork, we only sent photos of our civil wedding as proof that we got married. Now I'm thinking I should've sent more evidence so that they'll see that we're actually living together, have a bonafide marriage. I wasn't able to send any type of paperwork such as adding him to my medical insurance at work, copies of utility bills with both our names on them at the time I sent his AOS forms because it took a while before he was added to my insurance, and utility bills etc. When I called the power company, they have already ran the bill so the copy I received only contained my name, but I was able to add his name to it so the next bill shows both our names.

My question is, is that why we got called for an interview? I can't stop worrying about it. I have enough proof now that shows we're living together. I have yet to add him to my bank account, so we don't have a joint account yet. I tried to add him three months ago, a week after we got married, but the bank had to restrict my account because they, for some reason, could not verify his social security number. I'll try adding him again this week, hopefully I can add that to my documents showing proof of comingling of assets.

Thank you.

Well, getting called in for an interview is generally a really good thing!

If you have already submitted all of your paperwork correctly, they are probably calling you in for your "final" interview where they make decision about granting a 2 year green card! Just be sure to bring lots of new photos, joint-account paperwork (if you have any more now) or any other proof of a bonifed marriage to the interview and that will help your case.

Good luck!

It could be a reason but nonetheless just bring the other evidence. Interviews are pretty much a physical verification of your marriage. You can look at it as them working on your case and all you have to do is provide/hand them other evidences to confirm your bona-fide marriage.

I've added my husband as an authorized user on two of my credit cards so far. His name is already added to our cellphone bill, gas, water and power bills. I've added him as my primary beneficiary on my health insurance at work and also in my retirement plan.

I can't think of any other places where I need to add him. I've kept doctor's appointment reminders that we received in the mail for both of us, would that help?

That's good to know. Thank you for your response.

I was reading someone's blog about her experiences from having her fiance file for her K1 up to her submitting her AOS paperwork and I got the impression that the writer made it seem like the goal was to not have to go to an interview. It made me feel like, if a person gets called to the office for an interview then, it means that they did something wrong.

I haven't followed the processing times lately, but at one point during our process couples were begging for an interview as those with an interview seemed to be getting their GC much faster than those that had interview waivers. it sounds like you have a great deal of information now showing a bonafide marriage, so bring it all for your interview. I would also suggest bringing updated tax information assuming you file prior to your interview date. Also it is a good idea to bring your entire file from the beginning as sometimes they ask for information that you may have in the copies of your initial submission.

Regardless, I wouldn't fret over an interview appointment. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I already sent my tax documents to my tax preparer and asked him to have my filing status as "married filing jointly".

I'm not as worried now as last week when we received the letter for the interview. :D

That is all good evidence. Just get ready now for the ROC in the future, they really do want to see joint bank accounts and activity from as early

in the marriage as possible, so get the joint accounts going soon. Meanwhile good luck on the AOS interview.

My question is, is that why we got called for an interview?

Adding evidence doesn't necessary helps to avoid the interview.. I sent nothing more than instructions asked for (no photos, no bills or other financial papers) and got approved without interview..
