I had my interview on January 22nd in Montreal and it took exactly a week to get my visa in my hands! Congratulations on your approval!

Oh wonderful! Thanks so much.... did you fiance visa as well? If so, have you moved yet? Is there another fee we have to pay?

Hi waited in Montreal for my passport to be ready, so that I could take the train down to N.Y. and come visit my fiance for a couple of months (as a visitor). I waited in Montreal for 2 weeks!!! It was hell. I was sooo happy when it was finally ready. It was couriered to another city near Montreal 2 weeks after approval. Then I hopped the train and went to visit my sweetie. We flew back to Winnipeg together for Canadian thanksgiving, packed my car full of my things, and I told the border patrols I was approved and had the K1 visa in my passport. They allowed me in as a visitor (again), as long as I had enough funds and planned on returning to Canada by Christmas time. Went back to Winnipeg for Christmas (I'm a huge baby and hate leaving home lol). I entered on the K1 on December 28th. He proposed with a ring on the 29th... and we've been hectically trying to plan a wedding for March 20th. I can warn you that even though we sort of had an "extended" period of time to plan a wedding... it's still a huge struggle.

After we are married, we have to pay another $1000 (maybe more) for my Adjustment Of Status for permanent residency + work authorization. Hope that helps! I know how anxious of a year this is going to be for you :-(

Yup, K-1 visa. I move tomorrow evening! Yes, you'll have to pay the AOS filing fee which is around $1,000.

K visas, like your K1, are non-immigrant visas (silly...because seriously one is moving right!!). Anyway, as such you'll have to file for "adjustment of status" from your non-immigrant status to a permanent resident. More money to be paid, more hoops to jump through. SO important you do not work nor leave the country until you have the appropriate documents.

I suggest starting with that link.

good luck
