Hi all,

My fiancé and I are planning a summer wedding and we are looking at honeymoon trips within the United States (L)

Not sure if anyone has gone or anyone knows, but can we go to Puerto Rico? Is that an option?

Thanks in advance for all the response :)

I'm interested in learning about this too as we're thinking of going to USVI for our honeymoon. There are two conflicting answers on the link provided in the above post. Does anyone have personal experience? Do you even have to go through immigration flying from the US mainland to Puerto Rico / USVI?

Also keep in mind the risk that your flight might be diverted elsewhere due to technical-, medical emergency or weather and you'll end up somewhere that is not US territory, then you're doomed.

Very good point. Look at what happened on 9/11 with hundreds of diverted flights from the country

I'll offer my personal experience and an alternative viewpoint. Both Puerto Rico and the USVI are US Territories. Flights to either place from the US are domestic flights. Based on my personal experience traveling to Puerto Rico, it was no different than flying to Chicago or LA or New York and it is no more "risky" with regard to leaving the US than flying to any destination within the US. You are not leaving the US.

If your flight was to be diverted on an emergency basis, you likely would not be allowed to leave the airport nor be admitted to the country to which the flight was diverted given that Puerto Rico or the USVI (and home on your return) was your intended final destination.

Puerto Rico is beautiful, by the way. Well worth a visit.
