Moving back?

Hi everyone,

I'll try to make a long story short: My dad is sick. He's got cancer, the kind they can treat and give him a few more years but eventually it will kill him...
He got diagnosed about 3 years ago, it's flared up again, he's getting treatment but I'm starting to get really aware of the fact that I don't have much time left with him.

So, my husband and I have talked about the possibility of moving back to Sweden for a while. But I'm not sure if I can? I think if I'm out of the US for longer than a year I forfeit my green card and thus, when we moved back I'd have to apply for another visa? Is that right? Also, I'll be able to apply for citizenship this summer which we were going to do, but would that make things easier or more difficult?

I've spent so much time online trying to find good answers, but can't really find anything helpful for this situation... :(

Thanks in advance for any help or tips!

First sorry about your father.

It would make it easier if you have citizenship since you can come back when you want to. But can you wait almost a year to move Back to Sweden? Depending of how long the process for N-400 takes.

If you have and want to come back to us without being a citizen you'll have to go the IR-1 route.

I agree that a reentry permit will be your best bet if spending more time with your father is most important.

So you will be keeping your house, car etc whilst you are temporarily in Sweden?
