Hey everyone!

I have been reading loads of information about the NVC stage. I am still very confused. What is a scan date?

What are the main steps with the NVC? How long does it take once the i130 is approved? Can the beneficiary nationality can have an impact on the processing times at the NVC?

I would appreciate if someone could simplify all of that for me.

First meeting: 04/14/12

Wedding: 11/23/15

i130 petition sent to Phoenix Lockbox: 01/20/16

NOA1: 01/26/16 (Notice Date written on I-797c)

NOA2: ???

Scan date is when the NVC adds the information to your file.

Whatever it was you submitted. Did you read the wiki?

I read all of it yes. :-) It is very clear but I am still not sure how many months it will take at the NVC. Is it another 5-6 months for them to process the case? Then another 3 months to have an interview, right? Just to have an average.

So it seems like:

5-6 months at the USCIS

5-6 months at the NVC

3 months to get an interview

Please correct me if I am wrong regarding the processing times at the NVC.

It's about right currently if you don't get checklists.

Thank you for all the information. Sorry if I seem a bit slow but all of this is very new to me.

By the way what is the difference between a RFE and a checklist?

An RFE comes from the USCIS where they ask for evidence. If you fill out the paperwork wrong, they dont let you correct it.

A checklist comes from the NVC where they need you to correct forms or add items based on a checklist they send you.

The NVC makes no decisions on a case. They collect paperwork and make sure it's done correctly for the consular officer who does make the decision on interview day.
