Hi Everyone,

I am adjusting to live in the US great and the weather in California has been amazing recently.

Everyone has been so welcoming and companies that I am talking to about jobs have been amazing also knowing that I will have an EAD they are happy to talk and look at how we can work together once its completed.

We have gotten married and I will have the marriage cert. in my hands on Friday or Monday. So I am looking for what I officially need to do next.

I found this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

Would this be the most recent process I need to follow?

I noticed that it calls for another affidavit of support I-864 which was completed already during the K1 Process, so is this needed again?

Plus the I-693 which is a medical form, it states that if I had my medical for my K1 with in a year I don't need to do it but I will need to get a Dr to fill out forms for me and seal it in an envelope - is this something that will cost money? As I was under the impression that the $1070 for the cost of the AOS and EAD was all that would be required going forward.

If there is a newer steps post please let me know.

This may help you on your next steps. good luck.

You can find it under guides and the part referring to the k1 guides if you are engaged which has the flow chart.

Hi!

The flow chart and guides should be current with what you need to do. After going through K-1, AOS will hopefully be easy for you. In answer to your questions:

1. Yes you need to fill out the I-864. It is different than the one for K-1.. I believe that was an I-134? Anyways, they will require this

2. When you did your medical, you should have received a form with it. If you have that, you are good as you are correct, that the medical is good for a year... now I believe (Not 100%, but you can search on here about this) if you don't have the form, you need to go get a civil surgeon to do one and it will cost some money. I believe it varies. As long as you have the form from the medical, that is all they need. It just tells them you have your vaccines.

3. As long as you have your medical form, $1070 should be all you need. When you go get the the forms it will confirm that. You apply for AP and EAD with AOS and then there is no cost (there would be if you applied separately.)

Hope that helps. Always check the guides they are generally right and then I always check the instructions on the actual forms... in the end, that will be the most current info!

Thanks so much.... I plan on tackling this next week.

For payment how does it work? Certified check? Or will they take a personal check also?

What is the rough turn around time on the EAD during this process?

Depends on their case load I think, but mine took about 10 weeks. I think they tell you to expect 3 months though. That wait is the worst, because you can't work, travel, or really anything!

We used a personal cheque. It will say on the AOS form instructions how to do that, but I think we just filled out out and paper clipped it to the top of the applications.

Print out your I-94 info > https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html

Follow this guide for getting the SSN > http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Follow this guide for AOS > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The fees are listed here > http://www.uscis.gov/i-485

The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.

You need all the supporting documents for each form as well, so read the instructions for each one. You can also search here on VJ for what to include with each form if you get stumped. There are also example forms here on VJ you can look at when filling out the forms. They can be helpful.

And here are the details you need about whether or not you need to see a civil surgeon > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/551080-immunizations-ds-3025-or-i-693/

I got something from my medical that is called:

US Department of State Vaccination Document Worksheet

DS-3025

Is this what I need and means I don't need a civil surgeon now to complete stuff for me?

That's great information! You only sent certified copy of marriage license and not the birth certificate? Just wondering because they have an original already, but I noticed some send another just in case. The time you took to post your info is greatly appreciated!

I just sent a normal photo copy of my birth certificate and it was fine. Maybe check the form instructions and see if it says certified or not?

I am glad this helps. Even with the guides and instructions, it is nice to compare notes! :)
