Because they want to bring her her, find a husband and live "the American dream".

That is the prevailing presumption based on Phil B2 applicants in that demographic. Indeed, my "question" was rhetorical..

I'm really sorry for the OP's wife but that is not going to fly. Hire someone to take care of your wife who actually knows what they're doing. Your wife doesn't need a 20 year old single girl. She needs, depending on the damage the stroke did to her, someone who can rehabilitate her back. Possibly speech therapy, keeping her muscles going if she has paralyzed limps which is common in strokes making sure the muscles don't atrophy and a lot more.

I assumed it was because of cost. Now a US BF would be a bonus.

Then why even mention that it's a 20 year old single girl. Why not just say "hey my wife just had a stroke and we'd like a relative come help us out for a while"?

And don't come and say I am mean because I am not the only one thinking it, I am just one of a few who dared say it.

This happens a lot to when people talk about having the grandparents visit to take care of their newborn child, instead of just saying grandparent want to meet their new grandchild.

Thanks for clarifications above. What's the duration of a B visa for medical treatment -- for the patient and for the accompanying family? How does one know if this type of visa is being abused (how are they monitored)?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

There have been cases in the UK of children having specialist treatment in the USA for rare and aggressive forms of cancer (brain tumours, if I recall correctly) and there have been cases of people having obesity treatment on B-2 medical visas.

They have to provide proof that the treatment is not available at home, that the treatment in the USA is available and that there is some hope of cure, that they will fund all costs themselves and that they have been accepted for treatment by a US hospital. The usual contagious diseases are excluded. I know that the children in the UK who do this raise money through media appeals and big events. The amount they need to have runs into the hundreds of thousands. Women's magazines often pick up the story, as do TV shows.

I think the visa is issued for as long as the treatment is projected to take. Some conjoined twins from Germany were separated at John Hopkins in Baltimore, MD and they were in the hospital (with their parents as they were infants) for around 10 months. Sadly one died.

You also see non profits finding severe medical cases and bringing a child to the US for treatment to give them a chance at a normal life. Usual the non profit takes responsibility for the "visitors" One example is Operation Smile that brings some of the more serious cases here ( such as a boy whose lips and ear were town off by a chimp)

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

First, there is no such thing as a 'humanitarian visa',...there is humanitarian parole, but getting it is far from easy (and no grounds in this case)...second, relatives accompanying, say their child, who is being brought to the US for medical reasons, are not providing said medical care...the length of stay depends on what ever treatment plan/results are necessary...the treatment cannot be available in their own country (which is different than claiming that the care is not as good...sorry, that does not matter) and that the costs of said care is covered by someone or some organization...and this has to be credible, because the US taxpayer is not supposed to be out a nickel.

Bringing over a single, 20 year niece to care for her aunt won't fly, so by now I would guess that the OP is trying to think of a new story for the niece to try during her interview...but her demographic alone will work severely against her.

Humanitarian parole is referred to as humanitarian visa by some,

its very hard to obtain &\ its usually for an extremely & difficult case

outside the US that can be better handled in the US with patient

paying iblls etc up font to get this visa from DHS.

The young lady can apply for a visa to visir, but that's all, she must

prove she would return home after such visit, a hard thing if a

young adult is unemployed & have no finances of her own. she

is likey to be denied under immigrant intent

Actually HP is not just for medical reasons...there are many, but it is NOT supposed to be used to circumvent the visa process. Just because somebody was denied a B2 is not a reason to hand them HP.

In the OP's case, HP would not be granted merely to save him some $$$ by not having to hire an in-home caregiver. If that was possible, our nurses would be out of work tomorrow and the US of A flooded with untrained relatives working for free while scouring the country for a US spouse.

HP not applicable in this case, needs a work visa.

EB3?

We do not know her qualifications so I will not speculate on which visa type may be appropriate and anyway that would be for an Immigration Lawyer.
