K-1 Visa Done. Already in US. What now?

Hi everyone, since our journey some months ago we already get this far, now being together, living with each other make the time and the paper work less painful.

Anyway. So I end up with my visa, I'm already in the US and we will get married in April.

The question now is... what do we have to do?

For what I could read around the forum the next steps are taking care of:

I-485 - Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status
I-765 - Application for Employment Authorization
I-131 - Application for Travel Document

1) Can we start taking care of those right away or we have to wait until we get married first?
2) Can we take care of the 3 at same time or there is a specific order?

3) That's all, or I'm missing something, like how to get my Social Security number, etc?

Thanks in advance for the replies :)

You cannot send your AOS i-485 application in without getting married first. You can definitely start working on all of the forms, especially the I-864 Affidavit of Support, which requires a lot of financial supporting documents. I would submit the AP, EAD, and AOS all together to avoid the hassle of sending everything separately--I don't think you can send in EAD and AP without first applying for i485. You can definitely send them in after you receive your NOA1, but not before (a mod can correct me if I'm wrong). A SSN is essential in the U.S. to do anything, so I would do that first. Everything else can be found in the guides here and on the form instructions. Good luck!

1) your adjustment is based in being married to a us citizen from a k1 so you can't send the forms in until you are married and have the marriage certificate.

2) yes send those three in together

3) Go to the social security office and get you Ssn now, this is so that when they search for your name that matches your id it comes up in the system. If you try and get it in your married name before the ead then it will not match their records from your entry to the us.

I also have the same question. I just wanted to be ready and get more informations about AOS in order for me to do it easier before I arrive in the US.

My questions are:

1. What is the first thing need to do the first day the beneficiary arrived in the US?

2. To apply for SSN, as I have read in this forum, better to apply after 14 days in the US because if you will apply sooner, it will not be in the system - SAVE also it is better to apply once not yet married so whatever name written in I-94 will be match in your name?

3. If I got married and will apply for AOS, does it need to change my passport to get my new married name? Or is it okey to submit my passport copy to USCIS even if i got married and my passport name is still my maiden name?

4. When applying AOS, is it required to submit such evidences like photos of our wedding, proof of bona fine relationship, bank joint account etc... So Is it better to apply bank joint acct before submitting the AOS?

Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions! I appreciate it.

Regards,

Georgia
