Hi, I'm trying to understand how everything works. My father petitioned me and my sister (plus my 2 kids) when he was a permanent resident. Recently, oct '15 he has his oath-taking as a US citizen. He didnt update his status yet on the petition as he is currently on vacation and will update it once he goes back to US. The only info I know is that he filed the petition 12/20/10. And as far as I know, since my sister and I are 21 years over when he filed the petition, so it would take 10 years.. Can anyone please help me understand what and where should I check the status of my petition? I saw the Visa bulletin and if I am not mistaken, it says that the Visas right now that are being processed are year 2005 petitioners. So does this mean I still need to wait for 5 more years? We are currently filed under F2B. Please, please. I am desperate to know some answers, been wanting to spend time with my parents living in US since theyre getting older. Thank you, in advance.

Were you married when you were petitioned.

Currently you would be better off if your father doesn't upgrade the petition. The wait for a US citizen unmarried child is actually a year longer (2004 being processed now) that is unless you want to get married.

I see, I will tell him, maybe not to update his status yet? But are there any chances or ways to fasten the process?

Did he already do his oath ceremony?

Yes Maam, last year Oct 2015.

He can opt not to move categories so the process does not slow down.

Don't update status. Generally, the waiting period for unmarried sons and daughter of LPR (F2B) is shorter than F1. The same reason my mom is not getting her citizenship, my brother is F2B priority date is June 2006.

Yes, you will be waiting for at least 5 years if your priority date is Dec. 20, 2010.
