Hey guys,

We're currently awaiting our I-129F petition to be accepted - I already have work lined up for when I move to the U.S (working remotely for my current employer) - but will need to travel between Philadelphia, PA and Manhattan quite frequently - from what I hear driving is fine but parking in NY is a bit of a nightmare, and pricy...anyone got any decent alternatives?

Very expensive.

Which borough of NYC will you be commuting to?

Not only parking, but toll is expensive entering NYC. The Holland Tunnel, George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel are all $15 to enter the city. And you haven't even found parking yet.

Parking garages in Manhattan can be upwards of $36 for time over 4 hours. Street parking??? Fuh-get-a-bout-it! you'd be lucky to find something during peak hours.

It is a about a 2 hour commute from Philly. And Traffic is hell.

Depending on the frequency of your commute there it will be a pretty hefty expense.

You may be better researching train commuting. Maybe driving to New Jersey then taking a train in the city to reduce the fare.

Bolt Bus and Mega Bus are very cheap alternative. Takes 2 hours to get to NYC and you can buy tickets very cheap if you book in advance. They go as low as $1 one way. Greyhound is a bit more expensive and trains are the most expensive. Good Luck!

Thanks for this. The borough will change, I'll be primarily attending networking events and conferences as and when in NYC, so it's unfortunately not one central location.

I have heard that driving to NJ then a train from Newark to Manhattan is potentially the easiest and cheapest way to do it, perhaps I'll look into that

if you do the megabus - bring a can of air freshener, and a spray can of lysol disenfectant, plus a disposable covering for the seat. It's still a cheap ride, though.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
