Do you have to specifically state the dates you plan to travel and where, or can you simply obtain the card as a ,'just in case,' insurance?

I think you can just give them an approximate date and a valid reason for travel. Someone mentioned they just said vacation or to see family. I personally would be a little more specific: Take care of the selling of apartment; parent's health; get personal affects that were left behind; get university transcripts and have them translated and certified; sibling's birthday; etc.

BTW -- AP isn't a card, it will be sheets of paper. :)
