Hello,

Does police report and birth certificate MUST be translated by professionals?

I had my friend translating our emails and cards but I was wondering if documents such as police report and birth certificate must be translated by someone certified or anyone can do it with a signature on it?

Can I translate them myself if i am fluent in both languages?

well here in peru they dont ask documents transalated ..are you sure did the embassy ask the documentos translated ? ...

We are taking ours to a translator, i believe it says someone knowing both languages can and then there was an example of the form to date and sign stateing they are the one that translated. Im not to sure they would accept someone directly within the application doing it as my SO could have done the same, but he chose not to. Might check with the embassy.

No, Police reports, birth certificates, etc. do not need to be translated.

It depends on which consulate. Some require translations. Some require the translation be from translators officially recognized by the Consulate. Best to confirm what the country specific consulate wants either by contacting the consulate itself or discussing it with someone on VJ who has recently interviewed with your consulate.

Unless your consulate has specific rules against it, self-translation is perfectly acceptable. Just be sure to include a letter with the translation stating your name and that you are fluent in both the foreign language and English.

The thing is...........he needs a police report from Ukraine and he was born in ukraine which means his birth certificate is in ukrainian as well and he needs to translate it in English.

I think the site says " anything other than in english or hebrew needs to be translated into english"
