I read someplace that an immigrant can drive on their international driver's license for a short period of time when they first arrive but I can't find anything about it now. Does anyone know about this? Do they have like 30 or 90 days to apply for a driver's license from the state we live in? If he's pulled over will they accept his driver's license from his country for the time being?

Thanks in advance!

Patient,

Note that K1s (and K3s) are non-immigrants until their application to adjust status is approved.

As was stated before, it depends on the state you live in. Each state sets its own rules regarding who can drive. In Texas, Tunisia (and most countries) has up to one year to drive in Texas on their home country license.

I didn't think about this! What exactly would he be considered then? A non-resident alien? Can they still drive on their international license if they're not considered an immigrant?

Thanks!
