I do think Bill Maher is brave for taking on the issue and expressing his views - especially after Charlie Hebdo - Or is somebody going to make the claim that speaking critically of Islam is as safe as speaking out about any other religion? Maher also knows there will be endless leftist social justice warriors out there chomping at the bit who think they are making the world a better place one tweet at time by shutting down any opinion that doesn't match with their own.

bill maher is brave? please. he has an opinion and he voices it. that's sort of what he's paid to do. and seriously, just here in cehst alone, people speak out against islam everyday. multiple times. i don't think anyone feels unsafe, except maybe muslims that happen to see how much anti muslim rehetoric flies around unchecked.

has bill ever unveiled his plan as to what should be done about islam? how do we go about getting rid of this dangerous religion? i'm asking seriously, i don't follow bill so much anymore so i'm just wondering if he's come up with anything other than bashing one religion (when he should stick to bashing them all - like a proper atheist).

Everyone here is anonymous. We could be holocaust deniers and it wouldn't matter. The fact you don't appreciate how bill maher carries an extremely popular opinion (Americans are evenly split on whether they think islam is more violent than other religions and whether it is contradictory to american values) yet is part of a small minority of public figures is because he is one of the few who hasn't been muzzled by political correctness and that is the very definition of bravery.

I have no idea. I do wonder what the cut off would be even for you, though. Have you thought about that? Like if for example 99% of muslims supported killing in the name of islam would you still have no problem with the religion because of the 1% who don't support it? Because for me 7% definitely works. If I come upon 15 random muslims and I know one of them says killing me in the name of his religion is sometimes justified, I'm pretty okay staying away from them.

You don't think anything can be done, so you don't care how dangerous something is.

Some people believe things can be done about threats, but you're not one of them.

The simple truth is you know something is worse about islam than other religions (the statistics say this, too), but you're unable to admit it because you don't believe that piece of data is actionable.

until you can show me where, in history, a religion has been effectively ended, without also ending the religious freedom of its innocent followers..i'll maintain it can't be done.

it really makes no sense to go on and on about how one particular religion is dangerous or a threat - when there is no way to silence a religion. we have evolved as humans, and try to hold ourselves to the ideal that people are free to believe what they want instead of allowing the most popular religion to rule and silence opposition as it sees fit. either we go back to the old ways of dictating people's personal beliefs (for their own good of course) or we continue to progress.
