Almost 6 years, still hearing nothing from USCIS

My journey is really crazy.

In 2001, I arrived in the United States for graduate school. In 2003, I was lucky to get a job right after getting my master's degree. I was on OPT and H1-B for 7 years without being able to be sponsored for green card due to recession and bad economy. I was ready to pack and go home but a friend offered me a job to work in his company. In 2010, I started green card application.

For more than three years, I heard nothing from USCIS. My attorney said it was normal. In late 2013, I married my fiance, a US citizen whom I started dating in 2009. After the wedding, I applied for green card for second time. My spouse and I were interviewed by USCIS in Virginia in early 2014. The interview was short and everything went very well. Before we left, I was told my file would be sent to Texas office where my previous case was processed.

For the next 10 months, I heard nothing from USCIS. Both my attorney and I made infopass appointments to talk with USCIS officials. The only thing they said was, "you just need to wait." My attorney said it was time to contact my congressional representative. My congress woman's assistant was very kind and contacted USCIS Texas office immediately and found out what happened to my cases. It turned out that in 2012, USCIS decided that I was a potential national security threat. Therefore my application was under special investigation. What made no sense was between 2012 and 2015, investigation was never completed. After congresswoman's assistant expressed concerns to the USCIS, miracle happened. Two months later, I was notified that USCIS finished investigation and should make a decision on my case(s) within one month. It was September, 2015. Now almost five months later, I still hear nothing. When I check my status online, the last thing posted was from almost 20 months ago when I was interviewed.

I am frustrated and angry. From 2001 to today, I have been a taxes-paying and law abiding member of the American society for almost 15 years. If USCIS has any reason to investigate me, I am totally fine with it because I have never done anything wrong. And in fact, I have never had any difficulties getting travel permit and work permit. It just annoys me that those permits must be renewed yearly.

Now what should I do? Just keep waiting? It will be six years soon since my first green card application. Has anyone heard stories this ridiculous?

Try contacting the CISOMB, USCIS Ombudsman: https://cisomb.dhs.gov/oca/form7001.aspx It's worth a shot.

Good luck on your immigration journey.
