Petition expiriation date while in AP?

Hello, did anybody have their petition expire while they were in administrative processing, if so, what happens then? Do the y extend it automatically, or I need to contact the embassy? My fiance had an interview January 11th, and went to Ap-it has been 4 weeks since then, and our petition expires feb 29th. Does that mean we would have to re-apply? iF aNYone has been through this or knows the answer please let us know, thanks a lot !
