HI guys, On the guide it says to have your employer write a letter of dates employed if position is permanent or not and salary.

Oddly enough I work for a HUGE corporation and their giving me a ton of red tape about this.

Is it extremely important to have or can i have my last few paystubs and my tax forms and be okay?

One would think that huge corporations are also global in nature and would understand the need. No, it is not a necessity.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

You don't have a local HR representative that can give you that letter?

I talked all the way up to the director and senior managers. Theres a website that I can go through that will take quite a long time just to get employment verified.. I assume my tax forms and pay stubs would be okay?

I will be getting one before I go ..a written review but it won't have my salary on it.

By all means bring that along. I always got a written (now electronic) review from my manager and a salary review letter showing my new rate from HR.

The issue with tax returns/W-2s is they do not answer the permanent employee question. A formal review will definitely help if it comes up.

Find a sympathetic lawyer who will contact the appropriate executives and threaten action if they don't comply with such a routine and necessary request.

Even better, get a free consultation (many lawyers offer these, initially) to find out what state laws might give you the right to your basic employment information; then, relay this knowledge to the executives.

I didn't have the time nor the effort to ask for an employment letter. I got ahold of some company letterhead and wrote my own letter. Trust me, it wasn't checked. However, I do believe it added documentation/evidence that supported the petition. It is a personal choice. If you can't get a letter just include copies of your most current paystubs and any company correspondence regarding your position and pay.

Best of luck!

Your supervisor/managers don't do it, neither will directors. You need to start barking up the HR tree.
