Moving a computer across the Atlantic

You can backup your hardrive, or remove the hardrive and bring pack it with you. You can take apart, the motherboad, memory, video card, all the gizmo you have installed. If you go to any old electronic place or recycling place, you can try to get those anti static bags, wrap up those item in there, along with some bubble wrap and i would say you should be fine to go.

I studied abroad in France in 2000-2001, and one of my friends took his PC with him to France for the year and brought it back to the US with him. Like, the whole thing, in its original case, as his carry-on. He might have been charged for an extra piece--I'm not sure--but it worked for him. The rest of us thought he was nuts though because he had to carry that thing by himself, with a year's worth of other luggage, for a long time as we navigated a few airports. This was all before 9/11 though, so my guess is that he would have a bit more difficulty pulling this off now than before. The others have all given good advice.
