My wife had her name changed after we got married on a k1 visa in usa. of course she changed her name to take my last name.

Now she wants to visit her home country but her passport still bears her original /old name and not the new name.

Can she travel with the old passport or she needs to get a new passport?

Yes, old passport is fine, just make sure she carries a copy of her marriage certificate to evidence the name discrepancy.

I'm not sure from your timeline, but will she be returning to the US with her green card? And her GC name is different from her passport name?

As is often discussed at this forum, book the plane ticket with her name on the old passport. She should also bring with her get new GC (with the new name on it), and a copy of her marriage certificate. Eventually, she will need to get a new passport, the regulations/instructions on accomplishing that should be available at her home country's embassy and/or website, and are likely country-specific.

Read some other recent similar/same-themed threads in this forum for more information.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

If you don't want any delays.. Just get a new passport.

When you get married and change your name, passport is one of the documents recommended to be changed also.

As you may already be aware, the marriage certificate from Ghana is not the typical document common with westerners so, you get extra scrutiny.

Don't take that chance. Get a new one.

Her marriage certificate is not from Ghana. It's a marriage certificate from the US Court after she entered the usa on K1 Visa.

Simple, use the old passport when she goes to GH and have the GC with you, and when she is coming back use the GC because thats the only form of ID she has in the US. My wife and i recently visited GH and thats what we did and all went well...
