Hey guys, I had a quick question. I haven't heard in almost a year since I have done my FPs, but received an update that my name was updated for my case. In the email notification, it says "Initial Review" - Does anyone know if this means the case has been assigned to an officer or not?

Thanks!

Congrats to everyone from Vermont that has been approved. We are still waiting for the letter and of course that is God's timing.  We just made an infopass at the Atlanta office in order to get my wife's passport stamped with the 551.  Her one year extension letter expires on 4/4/17.  For those that are doing the infopass (at least with the Atlanta office) you can only schedule an appointment 14 days out.  The Atlanta office was booked solid for the next 14 days and nothing was available.  I discovered at midnight they open the next available day (which is now 14 days out).  I checked the USCIS web site at 6:00 in the morning and there were tons of openings (14 days out) so I booked.  I checked again later that afternoon and everything was booked solid.

Hello JohnE, are you saying that her extension expires on 4/4, is that based on the receipt date or GC? I've heard both ... so, I don't really know when mine expires for sure. I'm a June filer but based on what I have heard, I should get a stamp soon too, no? So confused...

Hello!
I see you have applied for your naturalization with an expired GC. Did they ask anything at all?

Last time I called and asked USCIS about it, they've told me I couldn't send a N-400 with another petition pending... but I see that everyone is doing ! I'm planing to send mine as well and see what happens.

No, when you call USCIS, you talk to customer service reps who don't know what they're talking about. Unless you request to speak to a Tier-2 officer, don't take anything they tell you for granted.

You can apply for the N-400 and include copies of your green card as well as the extension letter (and maybe the biometrics notice). This actually forces the ROC to be adjudicated because they can't approve the N-400 without an approval on ROC.

Hi Reidema, my ROC is still pending and I filed for naturalization.

They charged my credit card, received NOA1 and Biometric appointment.

I actually went to my biometric appointment yesterday, handed them my expired green card (and asked them if they wanted my extension letter) I had no problem at all.

My ROC is still pending so I know that at this stage nothing will happen on my N-400 until my ROC is approved.

So if you are planning on filing N-400, you should go ahead and do it.

I hope this helps!

I spoke to a tier 2 officer this morning. She told me that my case is with an officer and should give it 30 days more to hear anything. I heard the same response ("your case is with an officer") 3 weeks ago in Atlanta USCIS office.

Also, 3 weeks back I tried to get I-551 stamp in my passport in Atlanta but they (2 officers and a supervisor) refused to give it saying that my extension is for 1 year from the expiry of my green card (expired on 21st May 2016) and I have to come back in Mat 2017. I was OK with it but this morning the 2nd tier officer told me to get a stamp now. When I mentioned to her about Atlanta field office's decision not to give me a stamp, she offered to send me a mail stating that I should get a stamp now. She asked me to take that mail with me to get the stamp. It's frustrating they are not on the same page.

I have already applied N-400. I couldn't wait any longer.

I think I'm going to stop checking my mailbox obsessively now. It only gets me more frustrated.

Both VSC and CSC applicants pay the same amount of money but VSC takes double or more time to process the cases than CSC. This is not fair. Sorry for whining, just letting my frustration out.

It's pretty amusing how those officers can't seem to agree on the whole stamp ordeal. I went to the field office in NYC, and she stamped it on the spot with no questions asked. I have also filed for the N-400 because it forces them to adjudicate the case for the ROC. It also sucks that CSC get their cards within half the time we take to get it and it is pretty unfair.

It's also weird that some field offices take around 3-4 months for the whole N-400 process from start to oath ceremony, while some offices take around 8 months.

Doesn't the status update have a USPS tracking number? That's what happened when I got my first card.

What I understand is this.  My wife's green card expired on 4/4/16 and the extension letter gave her an additional year from the original expired date which gives her until 4/4/17.  When when got her drivers license renewed in Georgia her license expires on 4/4/17.

I do not know this for a fact but I think they will not give the 551 stamp unless it is within 30 days of the expired date...but I have read other posts where that is not the case.  It appears some officials do it one way and some do it the other way.

God bless

When my driver's license expired they extended the new one after like two months...  and I was surprised but it's new expiration date was 2021 so they extended it for 5 years even though My ROC application was far from being approved.
