That's not at all accurate. The US allows dual citizenship (or multiple).

Sorry - I should edit.. you CAN be a 'dual citizen'. However, in practicality it becomes quite messy - should I become a US citizen, I can lose that status by attempting to become a citizen in another country which is where the drama lies for me as I have subject-dom (right to citizenship) and a passport in Britain. You are correct though - technically you can pronounce your self a 'dual citizen' if you have obtained citizenship in two reciprocating countries.

I know that if you are Chinese, if you want to become an American citizen, China will revoke your Chinese citizenship as soon as they become aware of the dual citizenship status.

As far as Italy goes, I can have a dual American-Italian citizenship and it is granted in both countries. Not only that, but I also can request the Italian citizenship for my spouse even if we live in the United States, as long as we have been married for 3 years -- which we have since last July 2016. Italy finally passed a civil union law in January 2016 that became effective on July 2, 2016 that also allows same sex couples to request Italian citizenship for the foreign/American spouse.

I am saying this because having an Italian citizenship is the same as having a European citizenship (minus Brexited UK), and that will allow us to move back and forth as opportunities arise. It's a good thing to have.

You can be a US citizen and then acquire other citizenships. The US does not prevent you from doing so, but other countries might.

RFE Letter received dated August 31.

Hi Everyone,

quick question- when you receive REF, does it show in case status online? do you get txt or Email notification? i placed a serviced request last Wednesday, still no update. so wondering it might be a REF. Please reply if you have any knowledge on this. thank you !

Zakuansamia, it doesn't mean you will receive rfe though. Just give it a little bit more time and than start calling them and try to file service request.

Exactly how I feel! At least they did the service request for you. For me, the tier 2 guy on the phone said he couldnt and told me my case is still within the normal processing time and i should only contact them in JANUARY! :/ he sounded exactly like IV&A described before.

I don't understand why they are mean as hell... But it took me 6 calls to make till they processed service request and the one that processed it was a super cool and helpful chick and she is only tier 1 agent... So I think they are full of ####### and I'm not sure why they are the way they are but their communication made me feel like #######... I was talking cheerfully in asense that I was being super polite and I was just willing to get some help or update on my case and all I got was mean talk like I'm worthless creature... Seriously, it wasn't good experience at all... But the sixth tier 1 agent was really nice... So all I can advice just keep calling them till you get help... No other choice we have... We all diserved to get at least a status update or to know the stage of where the case is at. I'll be sending my rfe probably in a couple of weeks so we will see what's next.

Ughmmm the word that I used wasn't even a bad word, not sure why they pounded it off :)

Hi IV&A,

the reason i am assuming i would get a REF, cz many people shared their experience saying they got approval within few days of their service request. and as you said your status did change and you got the REF by mail. so i am assuming i would receive a mail soon. there is no change of my case status online...i dont mind having a REF,,but this waiting process makes me sad. i have so many stuffs pending on the green card....anyway no pint of complaining though.... :crying:

Hi,

need some insight on my situation- i placed the service request on 09/08/2016 and they said target date is 09/23/2016 ( i dont know what they mean by target date). anyway until today no change of my application status online. i saw people seeing their status changed within two days of placing a service request. and some received REF by mail ( i assume in this case online status doesnt change). so i am just wondering to ask-

1. what is target date?

2. should i assume that i am going to receive REF?

3. anyone got approval after service request and it took a week or more?

i would truly appreciate if someone share their experience please. thanks a lot.

It doesn't mean you will receive RFE. After placing the service request they have 30 days to respond. Target date as of work load can mean that you will receive an answer sooner but it also does not mean that they will meet the timeline and give you an answer when they said they would. Call after 30 days after you placed your request. Let's say you put in your request on 08-01-16 so give them a cal on 09-02-16. Basically give them a month to sort it out. You will call thrm again, provide reference # of tour service request and they will tell you if the decision was made either rfe or approved or denied. Or if they are super busy they will say call us back again. Which sucks but nothing we can do just follow the procedure

called USCIS in the morning 8:00 am got a call back just now the tier 2 guy told me the wait time is usually 10 to 13 months. HE also told me USCIS pays another company to update the processing times which not sure if its true. Tier 2 did not let put in a request. I called again just not (did not wait a second) and left a call back for a tie 2 again I really hope we have better luck this time around. Will not stop till this is done we will be traveling in December adn would like to be worry free on our first Vacation back to my husband and my parents country.
