Hiya!

I'm Kim and I live in the US. I work in Banking. My finace is Craig and he lives in the UK. He's an Analytical Chemist. We got engaged on December 23, 2006. We've been friends for going on 7 years now, I met him via an internet chatroom around 2000. Our friendship has grown and blossomed over the years. In the last 4 years we've visited each other 7 times. Soon to be 8 when I get over there again in April. Some delays along the path of our journey was my pending divorce. That took ages!!!

Anyway, we're really just starting our journey. I understand from reading that the best and worst is yet to come. I sorta delusionaly thought that getting married the hard part would be behind us. But now I see that the waiting on the government to approve various documents can take even longer!!!

He's giving up alot to be with me. A great career...I hope it doesn't take him to long to get back into his field here, but I know he's going to get frustrated if he can't work for too long!

I make well above the poverty level to hopefully be his sole sponsor, but I don't have lots of money in the bank. As a recently divorced woman who has joint custody of her one daugther and no child support at all...this is going to be a pain, but we'll deal. Please someone (anyone) tell me once he's here it's not as hard as some folks make it sound.

Does anyone know about how long it takes to at least get a temporary work visa??

Thanks so much and so far I'm loving this community. There are days this is the only thing that keeps me sane!!

Misery loves company...VJ is proof positive of that!!

Thanks for the help so far!!

Welcome.

How long it takes him to get a stateside work authorization depends on many things, including the type of visa you choose to apply for.

The K1 is not the only animal in the barnyard. If working soon is important to him, and you are used to this long distance relationship, you may want to employ the element of patience and file for the CR1. Of course, you must be married first to file for CR1.

For a VERY quick run-down of the differences in visa types, I like this handy dandy little reference chart from the FAQ. Ignore the DCF option - at present it is dead in the water.

Welcome to VJ!

You really love each other that much and he's giving up his career. That's is so hard to let especially if he is really inlove with it. YOu're both lucky having each other.

I would say good luck on whateve plans you both decide to choose.
