I have a question about medical exams.

I will be marrying my Fiancé in Japan on April 15th. We had originally planed on filing DCF but that is not possible now.

What we want to do is get her medical exam when we visit Tokyo for our honeymoon. Since she has to fly to Tokyo to get a medical exam we want to do it then so that she does not have to pay for another flight. Can we get her medical exam performed before we file the I-130? Would they accept it?

We will be using one of the medical facilities that were listed on the Tokyo Consulate website.

I have heard that the exams are good for one year.

Thanks!

Hi,

I don't know about Japan. But in Denmark they won't. It has to be after receiving your appointment letter as the medical report will be sent directly to the embassy by the doctor. But like I said it might be different in Japan. Good luck.

Dec 19, 2006 - Married at the city hall in Denmark

Jan 05, 2007 - Filed I-130 at the US embassy in Copenhagen (Approved)

Jan 30, 2007 - Received e-mail from embassy, I-130 has to be re-approved in London, we both need to file G-325A

Jan 31, 2007 - G-325A sent to US embassy in Copenhagen

Feb 15, 2007 - OP-169, DS 230 I & II, I-864 sent to US embassy in Copenhagen

Feb 27, 2007 - US embassy Copenhagen, I-130 re-approved and back

Mar 03, 2007 - Receive packet 4 - interview date April 12th

Mar 06, 2007 - Call from embassy - interview date is now on March 8th

Mar 08, 2007 - Interview at embassy - Visa approved IF medical report is all clear

Mar 14, 2007 - Medical exam

Apr 07, 2007 - Visa packet received

Apr 17, 2007 - POE Newark Intl. Airport

Apr 23, 2007 - USCIS refuse to change my mailing address

May 07, 2007 - Re-file for SSN

May 10, 2007 - USCIS receive visa packet from Newark

May 11, 2007 - Gets SSN

May 19, 2007 - Receive SS card

Jul 10, 2007 - Receive letter from TSC: greencard returned by post office - will re-send (duh!!!)

Sep 17, 2007 - Receive Welcome Letter

Feb 01, 2008 - Gets NC License - DMV will only issues it until Apr 17 08 (expiration date on entry visa in passport) since greencard not in hand

Mar 06, 2008 - After 10 months and some change GC FINALLY in hand!!

Apr 17 - Present: USCIS has managed to switch my case # with some else, send my greencard to the wrong address and had to make 3 - yes 3 - service requests on sending out my card

Fish around for other Tokyo stories to see the flow, but normally one needs some kind of case number from the Consulate in order to get the medical appointment with the designated panel doc.

Another reason to not do this plan is that the procedures change, often with no notice. The UK had changes in their medical policies 3X over a year or so. Additionally, the medical details are only valid for X period of time; I do not think you would be saving any money this way.

You may be able to buddy up the medical and visa interview when it is their time; the most conservative approach is to wait (and I understand--we too had to pay for a special flight just for the medical).

this is a problem i am facing in Japan, we did the med stuff last year in may of 06 because we were planning to do dcf last year but we got a little busy so i dont know if she will have to do the the tests again. We still have the sealed med reports with a date stamped on them.

Im still waiting for my noa1 which is day 14...i hope they will send to japan because i dont have a us address since ive been living in japan since 2002.I hate waiting because i want to send my I-129f but i need that freaking noa1!!!

I paid with a japanese post office money order so i dont know how to track it and get the noa1 or if they could cash the money order...

I wonder if dcf will come back...im going to send my tax stuff out this week....i think i got it figured out...and apply for her ittn in TX.

When you had the medical exam did they ask for a case number? I have been told that they will not perform the exam until the I-130 is filed.

When you find out if they will accept the medical exam before the I-130 please let me know since I will be getting married in April and we want to get the exam out of the way while we are in Tokyo.

Thanks and good luck!
