Hi,

I'm applying for the K1 visa and I'm the beneficiary. I'm french but live and is applying for the K1 visa in Canada.

Do I need to get my birth certificate and police certificate from France translated in English or they can be brought in French for the interview (Montreal, I'm assuming)?

Just trying to see if I can save some money!

Thanks in advance! :)

That is so weird! I just did my interview today and even though I still need to submit some financial papers before getting a complete case I gave them a French birth certificate and they didn't comment on it.

I do know however that a translated birth certificate will be needed once you live in the states so you can always do it now Bamboo33 to get it out of the way.

ETA: Just realised you're on a IR-1/CR-1 Visa, maybe it's different for K1 visas.

Weird agreed! I asked here on VJ and hubby literally called both NVC and MTL consulate and both said it was fine without translation before we sent it. All other documents we had were already in English. After we got the checklist, he called NVC again (with me on skype listening as always lol), and the operator again replied that we shouldn't have gotten a checklist for that and that it is in national language so shouldn't need translation and did we want to put on sup review. Some of this is crazy stuff and I don't think anyone is ever on the same page. We saw someone get checklisted last month for signing documents in blue ink after EVERYONE says to sign in blue ink lol. So we just "got lucky" heh.

I cannot wait til the wait to be with my husband is over. Today has been a tougher one for me and I don't really know why... just keep crying lol.

Anyway, good luck and how awesome to already be to the interview!!!

Anything not in English needs to be translated. The police certificate will be given to you in English, just let them know it's for the US consulate.

He used a place online. He scanned his birth certificate and emailed it to them. They translated and not only emailed him the copy plus their certification as translators but then also snail mailed it all too so he would have the originals too! He isn't awake yet and I am at work, but I can have him get on here when he wakes to give you the website! The place he used was really nice and professional and had it done by the very next day and he was able to talk everything over with them by phone and just pay online and get his copies in email.

Note if you are fluent in both languages you can translate documents for yourself. Montreal does not require an official paid translation, just a statement saying it's accurate because whomever translated it is fluent. There's a note on the NVC website about it.

I got mine translated by a Lady in Montreal city, she was amazing! You scan your document and send it to the translator, he will translate it for you. I forgot how much it was for me.
