I'm really starting to think we won't be approved. I know it's totally ridiculous but I can't help thinking our file has got lost or been accidentally shredded. We are only just over the 4-month mark so we are still well within regular processing time but I still have these awful thoughts.

I told my husband today "I think they don't like us and have decided we shouldn't be together." He laughed.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

That's not abnormal at all. This is about as close to a nightmare process as one can get in the civilized world. Thinking the worst (especially if you're prone to "overthinking" to begin with!) is something nearly everyone goes through.

That being said, it's like looking at accidents while flying vs. accidents while driving. It *sounds* so much worse to fly, but statistically speaking it is much safer than driving. What I'm saying is that it may *feel* like you'll get denied (because it's so horrific to feel that way), but in reality - unless there's something specific in your or your husband's past - the chances of a flat out denial is so small. As difficult as it is, it's one of those things where you have to forcefully focus your attention on something else, or you'll drive yourself crazy!!

Hang in there, you're not alone =)

Thanks! It's good to know I'm feeling completely normal. My husband is the USC and he has a criminal record (over 20 years ago he was arrested and convicted of theft and served prison time) but that shouldn't have any impact, should it? I was concerned when I saw someone apparently denied due to a big difference in their level of education. I have a master's degree and my husband didn't graduate from high school. Although I have never believed traditional schooling and academia is the true measure of one's competence and intelligence. My husband is an artist and gifted in a way very few people are. He can't do algebra or spell long words but he doesn't need that for his art. We have a very strong spiritual connection and follow the same path of beliefs. I hope that our difference in education level is not a problem for us.

Of course there's a great degree of subjectivity that goes into these decisions, but if he has the criminal record and you have the Master's, I seriously doubt there will be an issue. I'm pretty sure you can immigrate by just having a Master's degree! (Though I'm not very familiar with it, I think it's an EB2). You're not from a country with a high rate of fraud and if you can prove it being bona fide, I don't think you'll have any issue. There's ALWAYS a chance, as it would be for anyone, but it would probably be more of just needing to provide more evidence, affidavits, photos, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about it until you need to (again, easier said than done!) - though it actually makes a lot of sense that you'd be so concerned, now that you mentioned you have a Master's. It's been shown there's a correlation between high intellect and anxiety - one of the reasons my wife gets so anxious and I'm cool as a cucumber XD

JFH-

Now you are making me nervous too! I thought our age difference was the one thing that might stick out! I have a doctorate level degree and she finished high school. Seriously though, if you are anything like me you think about what might go wrong as a way of getting ahead of the disappointment if anything does happen. Somehow, predicting failure is better than being surprised by it. We are well within the normal processing times and many here have earlier days than either of us. At a minimum, give it this next week before you get too concerned.
