June is around the corner!!! :dancing: Come on Nebraska please update my status :star::star: I was checking some posts about the status update and people say that we might receive our NOA2 through our mail and not even get a status update. This happened to my sister recently...She was approved and her case was already at NVC and her status was in RECEIVED.

does it take 5 months to not be approved or does it take the 5 months ?

You are asking how long does it take for USCIS to approve you? They say 5 months and if you pass the 5 month mark you should give them a call.

I believe USCIS won't work tomorrow right?

So, we filed the I-130 Petition in early January of this year. Priority date was February 11th at the Potomac Service Center. Few weeks ago on May 5th the Petition was approved. I've been checking the online through the myUSCIS page for status updates. After May 5th it showed that the case was forwarded to NVC and now the status says "On May 11, 2016, we sent your case, Receipt Number YSC16900*****, to the Department of State for visa processing."

I haven't gotten any letters or notices from USCIS yet. Generally speaking, how long will it take for the next step? They will request info from me and my petitioner via mail?

Oh, sorry. Just reading the paperwork again (I-797), it says "You should allow a minimum of 30 days for the Department of State processing before contacting the NVC." We shall wait I guess.

no i meant to denie you u is it immediately or still gotta wait 5 months to find out?

It actually takes longer to be denied than to be approved. If they feel something is not right with the petition they will send an RFE ( request for further evidence) to give you the chance to rectify the matter or correct any errors. This adds time. It is rare that petitions are denied. When I read the adjudicator's manual that they use when processing petitions, it basically boils down to three things.

Is the petitioner a US citizen/LPR and can he prove that?

Is the petitioner eligible to petition (not convicted of any of the Adam Walsh Act crimes)?

Can a genuine relationship between the petitioner and the beneficiary be seen?

If yes to all three, it will be approved.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!
