I think the K1 visa flowchart needs to be updated. It currently says that the visa typically issued the day of the interview or within the week, with some exceptions. Based on my experience and many others that I've seen in these forums, the exceptions are many!

Because I felt that my case was pretty clean, I bet on not being one of the exceptions and began making plans for my fiancee to arrive 2-3 weeks after her interview. However, we were placed on AP and I've since learned that this is very common.

Long story short, I don't want anyone else to be tripped up by the flowchart and hope that it could be updated to reflect reality. Any thoughts?

This is why we keep saying don't buy a ticket or make plans until you get the visa on hand. Maybe the flowchart should put this warning too.

For the majority, visa issuance within a week is normal.

Your country is not one of those. Everyone is placed on AP but for some, it takes longer. I could have told you, based on your country, that most likely you'd incur longer post-interview AP time.

Basically it's those countries known to be high fraud or those that have present-day political turmoil or wars going on.

Wasn't really looking for lectures, but I guess that's inevitable, huh :)

I've seen cases for so-called high-fraud countries (though there's no official list) where the visa was issued the same day, and cases from so-called low-fraud countries that were placed on AP for months. So it's impossible to predict anything simply based on country. I am now well aware of all this, no need to kick a dead horse :)

My only point was that the wording on the flowchart can be misleading, and I don't want another naive soul to suffer as I did. Fair?

The other odd thing I noticed was that there didn't seem to be any Packet 3/4 in our case. In fact, my fiancee didn't receive anything from the embassy at all prior to her interview. A few weeks after the case was sent from NVC, I contacted the embassy to check whether they were going to send Packet 3 to my fiancee. In response, they simply sent me the instructions for paying the visa fee, getting the medical done, and scheduling the interview online (including what documents to bring).

There was nothing for us to send to the embassy before the interview (the so-called Packet 3). I think this is related to the point I made at the start of this thread...maybe the process has changed and what used to be in Packet 3 is now taken to the interview (vs. sent back before scheduling the interview) and the final decisions are made after some "review period" (i.e., AP) rather than immediately/soon after the interview.

Whatever the case may be, the K1 flowchart on this site seems to be outdated. Calling on the VJ admins to look into it :)

I don't really know anything about the AP thing..but I was also wondering about the packet 3 and how it worked. Went to NVC website and they have a list of requirements for the interview
