Assuming you are still within the 12 months granted with the extension letter, then all you need to do is bring the letter along with your passport and expired Resident card and you should have no problems arise from that. People do it all the time.

Doesn't it say that some VSC cases were being transferred to CSC for faster processing?

'USCIS recently began transferring some casework from the Vermont Service Center to the California Service Center to balance workloads. The affected casework includes:

Form I-751, Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence'

Based on this link: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTimesDisplay.do , VSC processed Oct 5, 2015 case as of July 31, 2016. Since today is Sep 22, 2016, I believe VSC should be processing at least cases filed in Nov 2015. Just my thought. I wish VSC was faster like CSC. Good luck everyone.

ok if they gave me in May 2016

The extension letter is good for one year. I've always assumed it's from the date of the green card expiration, but it could be one year from the date of the letter. As long as it's within those time frames you are good to go. We are travelling in December this year. We hope to have her new green card by then, but it's only 11 weeks away, so if not, we are going to just bring the extension letter along with her expired card and passport and expect no problems.

I've also read that people have made an info pass appointment with their local USCIS office and got an I-551 stamp in their passport that works as well. If you're not 100% sure, you could always go that route.
