Hello everyone, I have been following this thread for a while and wanted to share my recent experience traveling with the 1-551 stamp and my expired GC (they gave me back the card at the infopass appointment).

 

I traveled abroad a week ago and coming back to the US, there were a couple hiccups:

(1) checking in was nerve racking as the agent (for a popular airline) didn't recognize the stamp, he called the manager but they were all skeptical . He had to call the US to verify, a nervous 30-45 mins wait but he was able to confirm. ADVICE: if you do travel get to the airport early (thankfully we did).

 

(2) On arrival in the US, the immigration officer took my finger prints and brought me to the secondary processing area. Unfortunately, there were so many persons there, that process took almost an hour (my hubby and son whom I traveled with and US citizens were already cleared and nervously waiting outside). Finally I was called, passport stamped and went on my way. 

 

I have to travel again in May and I asked the officer if this secondary check is a one time event or every time I travel without my official GC. He confirmed i'll have to go through the entire secondary checks each and every time (uurgh) SO I am hoping the card comes before then... fingers crossed.

I received my husband's approval letter 3/31/2017. Approval date 3/25/17. Wish to other approvals soon too. Good luck fellows, thank you so much for helping me and my husband to finish this GC process. VISA journey is awesome !!! see you all in N-400s.

Just some updates regarding travelling with expired i751 and stamp on my passport. 

 

This morning I arrived at JFK airport after 12 days of vacations in South America. The female officer in boarder control asked me some general questions, ie. where did you go, how long did you stay, who did you visit, why your husband didn't travel together (I said he's been saving vacation days for Coachella so he couldn't make it). The lady didn't ask much more but still led me to the passport control office, where I needed to get further checked on the papers. I waited for 10 minutes until my name was called. The male officer checked my documents and said since I still keep my maiden name on my passport, it was too confusing, and I should change it. I said Ok, and then I was let go. The whole process took less than 30 mins.

 

I am still waiting for the approval letter. Good luck with everyone travelling with the stamp.

Does anyone know if they can stamp our passport when we go for N-400(Naturalization) biometrics? My license is still valid for 2 more months and I haven't received the approval yet for ROC, but if they delay it more then I will need to get stamped to renew my license. I was curious to know if I can just ask them to stamp my passport during the N-400 biometrics to avoid the double trip since I live far. Is that possible or will I have to get info pass for passport stamp? Thank you.

This is not possible since the biometrics are done at the Application Service Center and the stamps are at your local USCIS office.

A nice surprise...as I was questioned by boarder control in the morning getting in JFK, I actually received the approval letter in the mailbox this afternoon. Dated approval on 3/25/2017. 

Glad the wait is over. Appreciate if someone can update the timeline.

My card is expiring in 5 days, so made an infopass appointment and attended today (Atlanta). Didn't print the appointment because I don't have a printer and they didn't care at the entrance. All they need is an ID to let you in. An officer stamped my passport after about 45 minute wait. She took my green card away as it has expired. When I asked about my status she could only tell me that there is no update and that they have started to process it. She said these kinds of cases typically take 'few years'. I was like few years??? Anyways at this point I am sick and tired of walking to my post box daily with the hope of getting the approval letter and returning empty handed. Maybe I will start to check every few weeks from now on. What's the hurry?

Were you able to get the infopass appointment immediately? Is this the right link for infopass appointment for passport stamp....https://my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/? Is the following the correct address for ATL office where you went to get passport stamped?

My GC expired 06/05/2016, I had received 1 yr extension on 03/14/2016 so based on the receipt date even the 1yr extension is expired. Luckily, my license was renewed until 06/05/2017 based on 1 yr from my GC expiry. When should I get the passport stamped? I was hoping to go sometime in May. Thank you.
