Hello to all the members here!

Just wanna ask about those filipina who applied for cr1 spouse visa ,if anyone who applied for the first or setting an appoi tment and filing up an application form online , me and my husband will gonna marry on 23rd of March , and now we were doing now the paper works or requirements for cr1 spouse visa. As a first timer in applying passport in Philippines should I need to use my husband's surname in my passport application form? Or OK lang na kahit family name ko pa rin and nakalagay pa rin eh single ako doon sa passport? Thanks sa mga sasagot.

yes,use his last name.my wife did the samething.though they will use the info on your birth certificate.i believe she waited to get her new birth certificate or some paper stating her last name as mine then got the passport.i will txt her now and ask her.i think she is still awake.but yet if you have documentation with his surname as yours use that.it might be best to get married first before obtaining a passport as your surname will change anyways and you may have to go back and redo your passport with your new name on it..where in the Philippines are you?

hi ghie23,

Congrats for upcoming wedding!

1..You can only use your husband last name for your passport after marriage.

2.Local registrar will forward it to NSO as for our case we received our nso marriage certificate after 2 months but it varies on your location.

3.You may request/order NSO www.ecensus.com.ph no stress for a long queue or either can go to nearest SM mall to request one.

4. Follow by CFO office either Manila or Cebu for seminar to amend your last name please set an appointment online for convenience before going to their office www.cfo.gov.ph.

If you are married at the time you are applying for your passport, YES you need to get it in your married (traditional format) name. This means attending CFO, getting the certificate (make copies and protect the original) as DFA requires that also. Plus side to this is CFO is handled (have to attend at some point) as is your passport being in your married name... no troublesome issues later.

Iwas just thinking of starting a new topic along the line of: 'Establishing a New Identity' but I guess one will suffice,

I personally would recommend, all laws permitting, to file your I-130 and all other USCIS / NVC supporting document using your 'new' surname. This will of course require that you first obtain a Phil PP with that surname. Doing so will make your paperwork identity MUCH simpler and straightforward after entering the US.

We didn't take that route not thinking through all the ramifications of entering the US using her maiden surname on all documents. Her GC and SSAN was issued with her maiden name as that is what we filed on the visa ap. So when it came to getting an OH driver's license using my surname she couldn't because our marriage certificate was not evidence enough of a name change. They required a photo ID using my surname. Of course at that time all her official photo id's were using the maiden name. Likewise unable to obtain a military dependent ID for the same reason.

So we sent in the form requesting a replacement GC requesting the name change. her MC and BC, and of course another check for $450 to the USCIS. That was over 2 months ago and still waiting for the replacement to show up. Once that is in hand we can go around and update all her current IDs.

Somewhat long story indicating why filing all her paperwork with her married name is so important.

Good luck and welcome to the US in about a year or less.

You're preaching to the choir, haha.

Don't know if I'm more PO'd about not doing it, the additional cost to do it later, or yet another 2+ month delay in dealing with the USCIS!!!!!
