Hi everyone,

I just need an advice :( We got our NOA2 last 8th of June. It has been a month and 3 weeks and I'm pretty sure our case has been forwarded to NVC. The problem is my fiancee is here with me in Philippines right now and we don't know if our case has been forwarded to the Embassy here.

What worries me more is he got a notification e-mail from the embassy saying that the beneficiary can schedule the interview but it was addressed to a different person, not me. I think the embassy mistakenly put my fiance's e-mail address to other person's case.

He said the only way to find out what's happening and get our case number is to call them when he gets back. But he is not going back to USA till the 30th of July. It is hard for me to wait anymore. I want to clarify it with the embassy as soon as possible. Right now, I want to know if there is anyway to get our case number online or is it possible to call NVC outside USA?

You can also ask about your case here: https://secureforms.travel.state.gov/ask-nvc.php I've used it twice from Sweden, it works great but it takes 2 days for them to reply.

Thank you Scandi! This is very useful. Hopefully they respond quicker.

You can definitely call the NVC outside of USA to find out all details necessary. Just give them a call and hopefully everything will be sorted for you.

Thank you tomcharshonq. Will try calling them tomorrow :(

Hello all,

Received our case number from NVC Friday and want to know do we have to wait until the status says "ready" before we can complete the application and pay the fee? If so, how long does it typically take for the status to update?

Also, do we fill the application first and then pay...or vice versa?

Thanks!

This is embassy specific since not all do it the same way. So maybe try and ask others from then same embassy.

The DS-160 should be fine to do though.

It takes days to a week to go to Ready (meaning the embassy has it) after that some embassies are really fast to give package 3 and some are really slow to do it.

Thank you!

For Nigeria, we waited until it said "Ready" before moving forward with the fee, etc...that way we were sure the embassy had received our package.

Hi, I have seen around here and on the Internet that a K1 visa is a 'non immigrant' visa. Is this true? When I try to track my NVC case number and put non-immigrant, it says that my case number is invalid. However, when I put it under 'immigrant' it says that my case is in transit. I'm not sure if this is my case and if I'm doing it right.

Yes, K-1 visas are NON-Immigrant, however, they have immigrant intent. It's also called a hybrid visa, the beneficiary comes as non-immigrant and then adjust status as immigrant with permanent residency.

Thanks for the feedback. :) When I check my case number in the NVC and list it as non-immigrant, it says that my case number is invalid. However, when I put it under immigrant, it says that my case is in transit. I'm not sure if it's someone else's case or if my case has a wrong case number or if they have input it incorrectly.

It's handled as an immigrant visa, so it's all normal. It looks the same to all of us K-1ers. :)
