One petition - two K-1s

you can also apply for and get a new petition, in case the remaining time from the first one isn't adequate....here, the issue is no longer the validity of the relationship, but rather is the new K1 being used (in some bizarre fashion) to replace a tourist visa and allow the foreign fiancé to just visit? Hard to imagine and in the two cases I did some years ago, that was not an issue.

Kiev is an easy Embassy.

That's true. Especially if we talk about K1/K2.They don't give you any hard time and has always been very friendly and helpful.

Very surprised someone would ask a mom to leave her child! -- I would never do that for anyone at all and why even marry someone if you need to see if it will work out?

It's not a "we need to see if we are good together" visa!

She is leaving everything behind so maybe you guys should forget about the K-1 visa until you know each other good enough to know that everything will be fine. Many in here including myself have a big age difference without problems.

I cannot get away from work to get enough face time with her in Ukraine - she has to come here.

You do not understand what "leaving everything behind" means to my girl.

Not sure what to say about the attitude that my girl does not need to be in my country and in my (our new) environment and meet my family before being 100% sure.

Sounds like the issue is priorities.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I wonder, since it sounds like you two don't really know each other if it'll be tough to even be approved for the K1, especially from the Ukraine.

I think my attitude to what it takes to be 100% committed to marriage is clear from above. I'm an engineer - I make explicit the big IF that is implicit whenever anybody comes to the USA on a K1 etc.

By the time we get to the K1 interview, we will have a lot more face time. I have the luxury to travel every month - but just for a long weekend at a time. There is no risk of rejection

Based on who I am, every thing is easier with a B2 then a K1.

As HMF181818 points out above, my idea to use the first K1 in lieu of a B2 is a non-starter even under the circumstances he described.

And this concern is real and should exist. Since she can't come here on a visitor's visa (we see folks obtaining a visitor's visa far more than in the old days), chances are she won't be able to obtain one. Doesn't hurt to apply and try. If she is denied, then that will not affect the K-1 process.

By the time we get to the K1 interview, we will have a lot more face time. I have the luxury to travel every month - but just for a long weekend at a time.

Which is a great thing. My wife, who also wasn't able to visit me prior to coming on her K-1, and understood these issues and talked about them. We both had an agreement that after she came, regardless of our love for each other, if she wasn't happy, then back she would go.

Based on who I am, every thing is easier with a B2 then a K1.

But there is no guarantee of obtaining a B2. But why not try?

As HMF181818 points out above, my idea to use the first K1 in lieu of a B2 is a non-starter even under the circumstances he described.

There is no guarantee that a second K-1 would be issued, regardless of what HMF says. It's all up to the discretion of the Embassy. I wouldn't count on it. The worst is she returned before the 90 days was up and before you guys were married and she got denied. Then you'd have to do another K-1 petition from the beginning.

Face time is not a requirement. There are other ways around that, Skype video is great.

I do. For some, they come and have to go back. Do know that there is great support here in the US. My wife will gladly call your lady, even now before she comes, and very gladly once she arrives. We have made many family friends due to this, from both sides of the table.

Not sure what to say about the attitude that my girl does not need to be in my country and in my (our new) environment and meet my family before being 100% sure.

I understand. It's huge and it's just part of the concern we have when we engage in an international relationship with a person from a country where visitor visas are not easy to obtain. And coming from a culture to another that is very similar and very different from theirs.
