Hi Everyone,

We received this morning ... our NOA-1 (Form I-797C).

My name (the beneficiary) is misspelled.

We called the USCIS National CSC.

The operator was not able to open a service note as we are filing from abroad (mailing address not in US).

We asked if we could use the address mentioned at line 18 of our I-130 form.

She advised to avoid doing so as it may lead USCIS to send future notice(s) to that address.

This is aligned with the restriction on

https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayTypoForm.do;jsessionid=abcp1mO60o-3087xzJJkv?entryPoint=init&sroPageType=typoError

She recommended us to get in touch with the US Embassy in Belgium or the USCIS district office (Germany). What is not so easy … we need to be together when calling them during the office hours …

Assuming that the officer reviewing the case and evidences will probably find out there is a misspelling and proceed with a correction.

Is it worth to correct that error now?

Thx

Hello, I had the same issue when my husband filed for me. They mispelled my name on NOA 1 receipt. So my husband called USCIS and lodged the complaint and we were told they will change it but they didn't, actually we were waiting to hear from them that my name has been corrected but we didnt. So my husband kept calling but it seemed like they were not aware until the 3rd time when my husband called and the USCIS officer told him to give him 14days for it to be rectified. 12days after the call, my status was updated online that my name has been updated. So my advise for you is that, keep calling USCIS till you speak with someone that can help you rectify the mistake. NO NOA1 will be mailed to you when you are approved you will get your NOA2 in mail and your name will be rectified but you can see if has been rectified online when you check your status on www.uscis.gov, it doesn't matter if you filed abroad or in the US I hope this helps you.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

We will call again in few days!!!

To make it even more frustrating ...

Our case has been routed to the new POTOMAC Service center and the USCIS people, we got over the phone, dont know much about this center (email address not on the USCIS website, processing timing, etc.).

Additionally, they failed to retrieve our receipt number from their system ... And, at this moment, we cannot use the case status tool. We were told to wait few weeks before having everything in the system and working as it should.

I guess patience will be needed !!! :-)
