I've been battling tonsillitis for a long time. Like since 9-11, 2 months after.

I've learned to live with it. The second it acts up, I start with the salt water....

Take an airborne tablet too.

I've never heard of a steroid shot given for it though, in an adult.

With the toddlers, they tend to get steroid happy.

The long term effects are not yet known.

Ive been battling it since I was about 12 and was hospitalized for a week. I think i was on T3 and IV fluids and antibiotics. Never had a steroid shot either but I think it's working at least on pain.

I just hope it's not going to cost us a fortune. We have about 2k in our HSA.

Most likely. I was told if it swells anymore to go to ER.

In Canada with an abcess i got IV antibiotics at the ER. I dunno how they do it here. Maybe minor surgery? Dunno.

I'm sure you will be ok, good thing you didn't wait longer to go in.

I only know about the steroid pills and I think they are different? I took them once for a whole body case of poison ivy. They were great. I remember my dad taking them too to bring down some of the brain swelling.

Same stuff, its a great anti inflammatory but it's also an immunosuppressor.

So it can cause adverse reactions with infections. Great for viral things but tonsillitis can get worse with it, as the steroid pretty much makes the antibiotic less effective.

It is great to help her feel better pain wise but it can mask her symptoms. I'm going to guess that is also why they gave such a strong prescription..

One of the things I'm very prone to get to this day. 6 times a year was the max I got it. Also when I found out I was allergic to the Z-pack.

My tonsils are now so big the freak the doctors out. But they don't block my airway so they leave them be.

I used that Cold eaze stuff and OMG it really does work!
