I keep throwing things at the older one. Started with swimming, skating, skiing, violin, piano, everything reverts back to books. So I think that's where her focus should be.

When she turned one, in her "abacus, chopstick, pencil" test, she went for the pencil.

The little turtle went for the abacus.

That sucks girl. Take Steve's advice and then after the shower drink some hot water with honey, or take a teaspoon of it and eat it like that honey is perfect for this sort of thing.

My older one would go for the chopstick. She loves to eat, I sometimes bribe her with food. Oddly enough she hates candy, though.

My younger one would want them all and then to poke himself in the eye with two of them and hit himself in the head with the third. Actually, if a book or paper was an option, it would be that. Little Dane loves books.

They've finally, as of yesterday, started giving my daughter extra support in school. She's reading on grade level, but they are now on the same page as me that she needs help with phonics. She's getting an extra half hour a day of help in that. After talking to some other parents whose kids were abroad, I've learned this is not uncommon and they are supposed to catch up by 4th grade.

1- The chopstick abacus pencil tests have to be "controlled". set them on one side of the room, and then stand behind the objects on the other side. All spectators must be quiet. And stay quiet. because the child will examine each item before making a final choice. For non-chinese people, you can try a Calculator, a pen, and a fork.

2- Do you read with her? And do you also use Raz-kids?

3- "I've learned this is not uncommon". Didn't we tell you this? You believe other people but not us? What's your name, Tiff?

1. Interesting

2. Always, every day. Phonics has always perplexed me; I was already reading chapter books by the time it was introduced in school and by then it made no sense. I can see now that this might have impacted my daughter's ability to learn to read properly. I tried some of the programs, like reading eggs, etc. and we have tons of leveled reader books at home.

3. Well, I think it took hearing from someone else with a child speaking English before they might abroad to have it really sink it.

Hunting for food that Tiff didn't cook, huh man?

Nuttin wrong with being politically incorrect, and banning Trophie from the thread for being politically incorrect.....

This is like "failure of the power to go out shall now be known as a power-innage," see man.

So when you show up there's half a brain in the office?

Too charitable, and where's the +Many,000 button, huh man?

I think it's just simply called a trihull.
