Just curious...

Do you actually know anything about sailing? I mean real sails. Not yard patrol....not motor vessel...

When I was a young cocky guy, I used to dream of taking a 40 footer around the world by myself....

yup. I do know lots about sailing. Since I'm so cheap, I picked up 2 longish boats from 2 marinas last year simply by paying the back dock fees. Been restoring em slowly the last 6 months, but each is sea worthy currently.

I not live at the ocean, but for a spell of time I was an hours drive away, and one of the uncles had a big beast - about the size of a cutter yawl with the same amount o sail. I learned everything I could over a course of 5 years. Before I got the first assignment, we went out for 3 weeks, never seeing land in the Gulf Coast. :D

I've usually had a motorboat for skiing, and a largish sailboat docked somewhere. The sailboats usually got rented out for charter....

No I have a set goal for their college funds. And I wanna leave them enough to get to maybe 30. After that, if they can't take care of themselves, then I failed.

So, once these goals are achieved, I'll spend on myself.

a nice anomoly - the types of sailing craft vary widely by location - nyc 200 mile radius versus nort/south carolina versus florida versus Texas versus California vs Pacific NorthWest.

It's weird.

I say age 30 because.

1- I expect them to go onto advanced degrees

2- I don't want them to deviate from their studies with work.

3- that is not too say I don't want them to work, but I don't want them to have to rely on working to get through school.

4- I know it builds character. But...

5- but that's my plan.

Umm....I know that Gump....

It's just the rigging. You can use any of these world wide.

In that case, too, it'd mean that I failed.

Hopefully they'll spend a summer at Mrs. Parkinson's Finishing School for Girls between hs grad and college matriculation.
