ME TOO ! about 2 weekends ago, I shifted some timber bamboo from a free pickup into my garden. crunched it across a 2 inch path dip, three times. it @#$@ing hurts like a @#$@#@@^^. I'm going for xRays, then some chinese massage stuff.

I should go for xrays but the times I can go, mean going to the ER with a baby and a bunch of sick people around. Last time just to get my daughter's broken elbow set it was almost 6 hours. No thanks. Plus, they will just give me a boot. I ordered a boot from Amazon that was supposed to be here today but got delayed. :( If it isn't just tissue/nerve damage, I am betting on my sesamoid bones.

You don't have to go to the ER you numb nut.

Go to your regular doctor and tell him what happened. He'll order xray, then you go to an imaging place. They'll even analyze the x-ray before sending the findings back to your own doc.

You should have ordered the knotweed too. (The zeng gu shui)

I've always gone to the orthopedic surgeon for my breaks, you mean I don't need to do that?

Maybe I'll go to the clinic in town tomorrow morning, they have the imaging stuff on site.

no you didn't. Your regular doctor can order all that stuff. The imaging places have radiologists and technicians to analyze the results before it goes back to your own doctor. If there is something that needs to be addressed by an orthopedist, they'll refer you.

Well, they don't have on site radiologists here, I think they send the images out to Mayo, but yeah, the problem might very well be the referral anyway. If they won't do anything about it, there is no point in even going, kwim?

ok, the point is.....you always start with your regular doctor. It's no different than the ER.

If you go to the ER, they'll do the same thing as your regular doctor. Order an X-ray.

That X-ray is analyzed by a radiologist (an MD).

He reports the findings to the doctor that ordered the X-ray.

An imaging place will have a radiologist on site, otherwise they can't be an imaging place, they have to have that supervising MD there to open for business.

A hospital will always have an MD supervising radiology.

This part is where it differs between the ER, and your own doctor....

If you went to your own doctor, he will refer you if you need a specialist.

If you're in the ER, they may or may not have that specialist working. If not, they'll refer you, just like your regular doctor does anyway.

The main difference is the cost. If you don't get admitted, the ER is very expensive.

At this point of your game, the emergency no longer exist.

So, I think your regular doctor is the direction to look.

I know how that works, I spent 3+ hours a day after school hanging around the diagnostic radiology department of a hospital.

You seem unfamiliar with rural medicine. Primary care clinic in town is also an ER, they have one supervising ER MD who is basically on call 24/7 and then PAs, nurses, and technologists who work there. They also do a bunch of other stuff, it is confusing. For example, last year we suspected my daughter had appendicitis, so we went to the PA and he ordered the images on site. The images were sent off to the Mayo Clinic to be read. We waited and she got an IV in one of the infusion rooms.

So, if I do need to seen an orthopedic surgeon, I need to go an hour away. If I go to the ER or the Urgent Care an hour away and I have a fracture, they call the orthopedic surgeon in and correct it.

Only net benefit to seeing the PA first in town is that they may just give me a boot and send me on my way and I don't need to bring the kids along (downsides of a child who doesn't take bottles).

oh yeah I forgot about that part.....a real imaging place is probably hours away......

Read the reviews, that works great!

There's 3 famous over the counter chinese medicines, and this is one of them.

The other 2 are Tiger balm, and that burn cream I was telling you guys about.

You should get the burn cream just to have it.

I'm telling you, you get a burn, put the stuff on, you won't even get a blister.

Walgreen's already carry 2 of the 3.....

go back to the middle ages. Tell Dutch to rub your foot.....

Pretend it's 1585.....
