so are you paying off the loan? I would sell the car and leave it in Canada and get a new one in the U.S. So much cheaper to buy cars here anyway. If you're able to pay it off in order to have the lien released then that might be a smarter path to take.

I don't know what you are asking about how much do Rls charge to inspect the vehicle?

Because Chrysler wont issue me a compliance letter. CBP is looking for compliance letter OR letter from RI that says vehicle meets EPA and DOT standards.

Even if I pay off loan, still got the RI to deal with. CBP needs to see a letter from RI...

This is so frustrating. They should just allow cars in Canada to be registered in USA... :(

LOL I am a registered importer and I've never used that abbreviation myself. I'm laughing hard because I couldn't follow along with your messages without figuring that out.

So back to my question from before that I don't think you answered... what state are you from?

BUT also... are you planning to buy out your loan and then import it? You still have that hurdle to deal with.

BUT also... are you planning to buy out your loan and then import it? You still have that hurdle to deal with.

1) New Hampshire

2) Plan to pay off my loan... but still wondering even if I pay off the loan if I will be able to import it. All these hurdles are just getting to me... :(

Canada has different emissions than the USA. The USA makes you "federalize" the car. It can cost $1,000's. Leave the car in Canada. It is not worth the hassle. I was reading in here of a person who couldn't bring a car in from Canada because it didn't have a TPMS installed. Too much hassle. We have plenty of caravans in the USA

For most vehicles, it's actually a quick and painless process. Imported my car no problem. With the current value of the Canadian dollar, the big hit on depreciation on a new vehicle, I understand why someone would try to to everything possible to import their vehicle.

I've sent a message to my customs broker who does the documentation for my old cars that I bring in. Unfortunately I can't offer specific advice on modern cars but when I brought mine GM Canada gave me my letter by email, fax, snail mail so I had it covered from every direction. I still have the PDF they sent me even though I don't own the car anymore! Maybe call Chrysler in Canada again and see about speaking to someone else?
