I've been living and working in America for almost a year and a half now on a J1 Visa as an Au Pair. My contract is ending in 3 weeks at which point I have to return to South Africa to write an exam so as to be able to go to college. After this exam, I want to return to America to be with the man I love and my friends, but I can't reapply for a J1 Visa until 2 years from now. I have been seeking work or any option really, but for all the work I can find, I need either a J1 Visa or a Bachelor's degree, both I can't attain. Marriage is also not an option, because neither my boyfriend or I am financially stable. I really have no idea where to turn any more and would appreciate any help.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hi there

I found work as an Au Pair in America, but now it is a matter of finding a Visa, apparently I can not apply for a working Visa for this position. My friend said that you can ho ever do this on a B1-B2 Visa, but they don't know what documents I will need to apply. I have done some online searches, but have not found any fruitful resources, does anyone here perhaps have more details on how to apply for a B1-B2 Visa and what documents and Info I will need for the application, any information will help.

You can not legally work on a B1/B2 visitor visa. Your friend is giving you very bad advice. You need a work visa. Ask the au pair agency for help with your work visa. That's the only way.

You need to update your online research skills. Using Google to search "b1/b2 visa work" got this as the first result; You cannot seek for employment while you are in US on B1/B2. If you get job offer, then US employer has to file Petition first for you. Only with approved petition, you can apply Temporary Workers visa at US Embassy in your home country. However, you can have the company apply for a change of status and become an H1B.Sep 18, 2013

The problem is that I exhausted my allowed term with the agency and I have to take a 2 year break before I am allowed to apply for a J1 Visa (the Visa you need as an Au Pair). Where can I find more information on a work Visa then, because I have to do all of this alone and honestly have no idea where to start.

You're not likely to receive an H-1B as an au pair; a J-1 is the more appropriate visa for that.

I've already finished a full term on a J1 Visa and they are forcing me to take a 2 year break before allowing me to apply again, so I'm looking for another option

No matter how many times you ask, there isn't one.
