Driving license renewal while waiting for ROC

We will be applying for ROC soon. Meanwhile, as my current California driving license expiry date is the same as the 2-year GC expiry date & looking at the processing times of ROC, how do we renew my Driving license?. Will NOA applicable to renew the driving license?

It's a legal document and it should be accepted, but many VisaJourney posters have shared stories about how local DMV employees don't understand the NoA. If that happens to you, ask to speak to a supervisor and show documentation from the USCIS website explaining how the NoA is an official document legally extending the "expired" physical green card for another year.

If possible, submit your RoC application 89 days before the green card expiration date and then hopefully you'll receive your ten-year permanent green card before the original expiration date and you skip the above situation overall. I don't know how long the RoC normally takes though.

Thank you. That is what we plan to do. Submit RoC sharp on the due date & hope to get my 10 year GC on time. There is no definitive timeline for RoC as some people get thru really fast & some not so. That is why I wanted to be well prepared in both scenarios!.

Seems the ROC takes 9 months to a year after you file, so that won't solve the expiring DL problem.

The way DL renewals are handled for people in ROC seems to vary from state to state and even by DMV within the same states.

When my wife renewed her DL, which was going to expire in January, the DMV issued her a new license valid only until July 10, which is the receipt date on her extension letter. I tried explaining to three different people at the DMV that her green card was extended for 1 year from the expiration date (Oct 6), but they all told me they have to go by the extension letter's date because that is the most recent document from USCIS.

With the way the VSC is moving, it's possible she won't have her new green card before her current DL expires. If that happens I'm not sure what we'll do.
