I-485 Interview Request - WRONG STATE!!

Hi Visajourney,

I just recieved a letter informing me of a interview request on Feb 17th. However the interview address is in Philadelphia. We live in California!! We did live in Philadelphia when this process started in Dec 2014. But moved nearly 9 months ago to California for my husbands school programme. We informed USCIS of our address change, hence we received this interview letter at our California home and have had multiple other communication to our California home from USCIS. Has this ever happened to anyone before? How easy will it be to change interview location? Is there something else I should have done???

Please any help would be appreciated.

Make an Infopass appointment at your local office and explain the situation face to face with an actual IO.

Thank you. Earliest I can get is 12th of February! Ah, feel so helpless - must just be an admin error. I mean I guess worst case scenario I find a red eye flight to Philly :-0 My boss is gonna love me....Not!!

The first thing they will do at your interview in Philadelphia, if you attend, will be confirm your name and address. When they find out you no longer live within their jurisdiction they will cancel the interview and send your file to your actual local office.

So attending that interview will be an abject lesson in futility.

Well thats good to know. I just dont understand how they can book an interview in Philadelphia, but send the interview letter to California! Bemused to say the very least. I'll call the USCIS helpline tomorrow, and try and resolve. Think waiting until 12th of February for my InfoPass appt seems too far away if the interview is on the 17th. I just pray it doesnt add yet more time to our application.

Also, when interview letter is issued, this doesnt put my EAD renewal on hold does it?

I think changing location will move the date a bit, and more waiting .. Even if it's they fault.. Do you have any opportunities to fly to Philadelphia for an interview?

do you have a buddy in Philadelphia? I suggest you send off a packet to him, ask him to drop it into the dropbox just inside the door at the local office there in Philadelphia.

In the packet, have a letter, clearly state that you moved to California, show copies of USCIS letters to your California address, and ask the adjudicator to request the A-File and AOS casefile be sent to a local office in California, cancelling the interview due to internal USCIS error.

on the outside of the packet that your friend drops off, write :

Adjustment of Status Adjudication Unit

Emergency Address Change

Thanks everyone for your feedback. So I called the USCIS telephone number. Spoke to a friendly chap. Explained the situation to the agent and he took the info and said he was putting in the request to cancel my interview and schedule it in California instead. He said it will take 15 days to notify me of the outcome. Im hoping its just a simple switch seeing as it wasnt my fault that they gave me the wrong interview location. But simple seems to be a word I dont use very often in this process.... here's hoping I'm proved wrong.

I did consider going to Philly - crazy how that seems like the easiest option. But the agent told me to just change locations. Following his advice.

I'm also waiting on an EAD renewal by 10th March to ensure I dont lose my job! Hoping this isnt impacted by this situation. Trying to remain cool and calm and collected!

If anyone has any other thoughts or knows of anything else I should be doing, then please let me know. Much appreciated.

p.s I'm a girl :-) Seen a few people call me "he" ha ha

I would still go to the Infopass, the reason being they've already screwed up once already and there is no guarantee it won't happen again.

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
