Choice of Agent

Hi folks,

am I correct in understanding that after the I-130 petition is sent to the NVC we have to appoint an agent to receive further documents? If my husband (the USC) has received all mail until then, who should we appoint as the agent? Would it make more sense to appoint me (the beneficiary) so that I receive all the mail?

Please clarify. Thank you :)

Actually, let me rephrase my question (I couldn't edit the post for some reason):

I have read that most people appoint the USC as the agent because it's faster. However, does the USC then have to mail the documents to the foreign spouse? As in, after my husband (USC) is appointed as the agent and receives mail from NVC, does he have to send it to me to Germany, too? Wouldn't it make more sense in our case then that I am appointed as the agent since mailing between the US and Germany seems to be working well?

it's better if the USC will be the Agent...

He doesn't have to mail you any doc's, he'll be paying the bills as your agent..

and also will fill-up I-864 forms

and you as the beneficiary will fill-up the DS-230 w/c can be downloaded on the USCIS site, then you can forward it to him even before it has been generated... together w/ other required docs

I see.. So the USC emails NVC to appoint himself as the agent. Right?

And another question:

Jame's shortcuts (generating the bar code) is in regard to appointing the Agent of Choice, right? So if we email NVC about appointing our Agent of Choice, we don't have to generate the bar code and can pretty much neglect the actual DS-3032, right?

you don't have to generate any barcode for DS-3032...

and yes you can disregard the actual DS3032 if you already e-mailed your choice of agent.

generating barcodes is for the I-864 and DS-230,

but for us we didn't do that, my husband just wait for the mails,

and as for DS230 i fill it up and mailed it to him as soon as the IV bill has been generated,

he will send it to NVC when he got the forms in the mail.

Thank you!!

I am somewhat confused about the order we'll receive things. The Agent of Choice (my USC husband) will receive the DS-230 by the NVC and would have to send it to me to fill it out, right? But, I could also fill it out online, print it, and send it to him, right? Or do I have to keep it? Ahhh, confused :P

your husband as your agent will receive the DS230 forms together with the coversheet and instruction,

you as the beneficiary can now fill-up the DS230 forms online and print it out,

you can gather the other requirements now w/c you need to send together w/ the DS230,

and you will send this to your husband, as for me i send it as soon as the IV bill has been generated

so when the agent received the forms in the mail, he can send it right away..

the coversheet should be needed to sent w/ it

some generate their own...(james shortcut)

USC stands for Unite States Citizen, it would be wiser to choose the USC to be the agent.

Choosing an agent is when your I-130 has been forwarded to NVC, after the approval at USCIS

You can view a Flowchart for the NVC here

It shows two paths but they are interwined. One path is what is completed by the beneficiary (now applicant), the other is completed by the USC spouse.

If you are wanting to use James Shortcuts you will need to send your USC husband a completed signed copy of the DS-230. If you are required to submit both parts I & II do not sign part II as this is signed at the interview. If you are generating the barcode sheet you will need to send that to him as well.

You can find me on FBI
