Hi guys, I was scheduled to have my naturalization interview this morning, so when I went through security and all that, while I was waiting for my name to be called, a guy came out and said that there might be something missing in my file or the package wasn't put together right?? And he said that I will be scheduled for another interview, did any of you guys experience this or is it just me ?

Thank you!

This happens from time to time... usually if they realize that your file isn't ready before your interview they will mail you a cancellation notice. Sometimes (not too often) you only find this out when you arrive at the field office for your interview.

Usually this means that one of two things has happened: your background check isn't done or your file hasn't been forwarded to the office yet.

Interviews are only supposed to be scheduled after a background check is completed, but sometimes offices try to estimate when a case will be ready for interview so as to speed up the process... if the background check isn't ready, they have to cancel the interview.

If your file hasn't arrived or arrived incomplete for some reason, the field office has to request the missing documents from the National Benefits Center or from other offices that handled your immigration case in the past.

Delays may last from a week or two to several months... I don't think you need to worry, but if you've heard nothing in a month, you should probably make an appointment and check on your status. That's just my personal recommendation because worrying about it now or calling or visiting them immediately won't give you any more information than you were able to get when you were there in person.

Alternatively, they may just have made a scheduling mistake and don't want to admit it; they may have booked too many people for a given day... if this is the case, you should get a new letter pretty soon.

This is just what I've managed to understand about the process by doing my own research; I'm by no means an expert.

Thank you for the answer. The guy mention that as well he said he was trying to contact the National Benefits Center so they can send it to him per fax. All I can do right now is wait for another notice a gues!
